I shivered, pulling the silk back shawl closer as a cold gust of wind cut through me. The sun was setting and amidst the greying clouds, the rays created the most beautiful vision I'd ever witnessed...

I gazed around fondly, at our favorite frequency spot..an isolated property, away from the hustle and bustle of city life..a place to call our own..a place to escape to whenever we felt like it.

I grunted as the heavy weight of the bag pack in my arms weighed me down. Puffing, I made my way to our annual meeting place. A place where we'd spent many moments of laughter and love for every special occasion, be it anniversary, birthday or...

My vision blurred and I collapsed onto the ground, the bag flopping on the grass by my side. Zipping it open, I took out a bouquet of fresh lilacs and orchids, a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Digging in deeper, I took out matches, and a candle, placing them in the cold stone beside me.

My hand shook lightly as I lit the candle and poured champagne into the glasses. Placing the candle and one glass on the grave, my eyes travelled guiltily to the writing on the stone, wiling them to erase and proclaim that I had not lost the one person I loved more than life itself...that, my precious love would appear beside me and laugh and celebrate with me like we had always done...

Tears streamed down my wrinkled face as I raised a toast to my beloved.

"Happy Anniversary, Ana, my love...", my sobs uncontrollable by now. "Happy 70 ' th anniversary..."

Raising the glass to my lips, I drank in memory of my one and only love, memories of our life together ravaging me from within. Putting down the glass with a sigh, I curled up beside her grave, clutching at the silk shawl she always loved, a gift from me on our first anniversary, and a reminder of our love.

And as I closed my eyes, I hoped and prayed that I would fall into that final, dreamless sleep that would take me to her..
