Glow

Chapter One: Golden Leaves

       It was September 1st when it started. A rather rainy day and at the time it didn't seem so peculiar. It had been a month since I graduated from college and I was moving into a tiny cottage right outside of town. Living in a small space in the middle of the woods was quite peaceful but often lonely. With my lack of guests and only company as my grandmothers old cat that was given to me after she passed, things were seldom interesting. I was putting away some boxes when I heard a knock at the door.
       "It's open!" I yell with an odd sense of trust that it's a neighbor or a friend coming to visit. I hear the door open and wait a moment to peek around the corner. As sneak around the door frame I notice the dead silence. All I hear are my footsteps and nothing else.
       "Hello?" I said shattering the uncomfortable quiet. There was no response. When I got to the kitchen I saw that the front door was open and there was a trail of golden looking leaves that lead to the island. I picked one up, it was beautiful. The leaf seemed to glimmer with bright gold shining through its veins.
       "Hmm, strange." I mutter setting the odd leaf on the counter. I looked outside the still open door and it looked gloomy. I got up to shut the door careful to not step on any of the precious leaves. The door clicks shut leaving an echo through the now glowing kitchen due to the iridescent flora on the floor. I turn an look up despite the sudden blinding light to see a glowing being. I couldn't see much but it's seemed to be a woman around my age that gleamed like the trail on the floorboards.
       In a sudden dash she bolted towards me leaving a bright and hazy trail behind her. I shut my eyes because the room was so bright. Before I knew it she had gone out the door and vanished leaving me to collapse on the floor in a flood of weakness. The ambience died down and the room was quite and gloomy once more. I couldn't begin to comprehend what had just happened, but it was only the start.
