I brought my blanket above my head and ducked down into it, realizing that Joseph was on his way to my new apartment right now, and he was going to see me looking like absolute trash. I had my hair tied up in a messy bun, and I was wearing pajamas, which consisted of old, baggy sweatpants with stains and holes and a baggy, hooded crop top with my high school's name across the front.
I closed my eyes and tried to wish the occurrence away before it happened, but I knew that that wouldn't do anything to change the fact that Joseph would be here any minute.
As if on cue, there was a knock at my door. I tossed the blanket off of me and looked around my apartment to see unopened boxes and messes scattered everywhere. Shit. The knocking continued as I just sat there, eyeing the plethora of boxes and clothes all over the room.
I begrudgingly pushed myself up off of the comfort of my couch and trudged over to the door. I placed my hand on the door knob and paused, taking in a quick nervous breath. In one swift motion, I pulled the door open to reveal a complete surprise.
Daniel.
He looked up quickly as my door opened, revealing him to me. I was certainly taken aback by the brunette standing before me. He was not who I expected to show up at my door.
"Daniel?" I asked aloud. He waves slightly to me, smiling nervously. "Wh–what are you doing here?" I asked, shifting my weight to one foot as I leaned against the side of my front door.
"Well, I saw that Joseph was coming, and I was meaning to come over these last few days. I had to say something to you." He explained, his hands fidgeting. I furrowed my eyebrows curiously, taking in his obvious nervousness, of which I had never observed with him before — not to this degree.
"Um," I trailed off and looked behind me at my messy apartment, "Yeah, yeah, sure. Come in." I invited him in while I opened the door wide enough for him to enter. "Sorry about the mess. Still getting situated."
"Oh, don't worry about it. My apartment looks worse, and I've lived there for years." He sent me a reassuring smile as he turned back to face me, watching me shut my door.
"So," I looked down at my lazy day clothes awkwardly, "what did you want to talk about?" I walked towards him and seated myself at the island just across from my living room area. He looked at me hesitantly before taking a step towards me.
"Well, there is something I want you to know. And I was kind of hesitant on if I should tell you, because I didn't know how you'd react." He started to ramble as he was only a few inches from me. His obvious anxiety was starting to rub off on me and made me a little concerned about what it was he wanted to tell me.
"Daniel, whatever it is..." I trailed off as he looked away from me. I placed my hand on his to get his eyes back to mine. It worked. His eyes met mine, and his eyebrows furrowed curiously. "You can tell me." He nodded quickly, taking in the fact that I was comfortingly holding his hand.
"Just don't make a big deal out of it or something." He made me promise before continuing. I nodded, curiously. I took my hand from his and placed it on the counter. He stood just before me.
"What is it, Danny?"
"Danny? I like that." He laughed nervously. I smiled slightly, waiting for him to respond. "Anyway, I wanted to say that... Well, I just wanted you to know that... I — Oh fuck it." He stepped forward and placed his hand on either side of my face, placing his lips on mine. I paused for a moment, taking in the situation, realizing that Daniel was actually kissing me. I mimicked his position, cupping his face in my hands, wrapping one around the back of his head, grasping into his hair and tugging slightly. His mouth opened slightly as he gasped, taking a step back to take a breath.
