These were Jasper's final moments. His consciousness was slowly slipping. This would be the second and last time Cameron Campbell had let him down.

The whole of the camp went on a hike that very morning. Everything was going smoothly; things were even starting to look up for David. "You know, I don't think today is going to be so bad!" David exclaimed happily. Jasper smiled and nodded in agreement. "Yeah! I mean last time I went on a hike with you guys everything went downhill. I don't think even that will happen this time." The two nodded and kept walking. David was partially right but Jasper was wrong.

"DAVEY!" Jasper yelled as he fell. Further and further down. No one heard him go and no one will hear him again for a long time. The group had been looking for Jasper for hours before they decided to call the police. Mr. Campbell made his grand escape just in the nick of time. All the kids were sent back to the camp as the cops searched.

As the night continued many campers were able to rest easily but one remained awake and afraid. David laid awake just staring at the ceiling hearing the occasional yell about a false call. David let silent tears roll down his face.

That night was a blur to many except the one who experienced it. David grew up and still went to the camp every year to train to become the next counselor. Jasper remained the same age. Sometimes he haunted the island in the middle of the lake and other times he would venture much further. Yet, that could only be every few months. He had to save strength. He was so much weaker than before and his spirit was slowly dying. Yet one day this all changes and so does David's view on everything going on inside and out of the camp.
