Chapter 5 ~~ Through The Wall
After falling to the cold concrete floor, unconscious, for a few hours, Natalie woke up again, finding herself stuck exactly where she was before.
Darkness.
She knew what she had to try next. Natalie needed to get the duct tape off her face. Straining to part her lips, she used her tongue to un-stick the tape. Slowly but surely, the tape became loose with saliva and soon, she used her knees to rip it off her mouth.
"Ah!" she screamed as she tasted blood seeping into her mouth. The tape must've ripped up her lips, causing them to throb painfully. At least Natalie could now use her voice.
"Who's there? Help! Anybody!" She screamed and screamed for hours, still hearing no reply and no sounds.
Tears ran down her face and over her mouth, stinging her blooded lips.
An image of her mother popped into her head. Her mother's dark brown eyes and frizzy dark brown hair. It was an image of her mum, only younger. Maybe 15? 16? Natalie realised that she, herself, looked very similar to her mum. They both had brown hair and dark brown eyes, a few freckles on their faces and the same small stubby nose.
She didn't know if she gained any of her dad's looks. She had only ever seen photos of him that weren't very good quality, so she had a rough image of him in her mind. His name was Cain. Cain Farewell. When Cain found out that his wife was pregnant, he ran. He just left and disappeared without a note or a message left behind. Of course Natalie's mum, Sophie, was devastated. Although her heart was broken, she continued to raise Natalie and continued with her life. Since then, Sophie had found another man, Richard, or Red for short. After a few months, Sophie was pregnant again, but this time with twin girls. They named them Lily and Charlie. Red was basically Nat's dad, who loved her and looked after her like she was his daughter.
"Natalie," she heard someone say as she snapped out of her thoughts, but then ignored what she heard as she knew she was going to go mad at some point.
"Natalie," there the voice was again. A familiar voice coming from the other side of the wall. It took her a while to come to her senses and figure out who it was. A young male's voice...
Henry.
"Henry? Is that you?" she said, her voice trembling.
"Natalie. I'm so glad you are alive. It's me Henry. I was so worried," Henry replied. His voice was faint, but able to hear. Natalie followed the voice and lent against the cold surface of the wall.
"Henry! Where am I? Where are we?" She cried.
"I don't know, but all I remember is that I went back to my car to get my phone. I went to open the door and then," he hesitated, "I don't know what happened after that. I just woke up here and have been here for... I don't even know how long..."
"Four days," Nat said, not that she was counting or anything. Silence fell upon them for a short while. She took a few deep breaths.
"I thought you ditched me back at the picnic. I was angry. However, since your mum called me and how you have been missing for a few days, I was worried and kind of depressed." Nat swallowed, "Why did this have to happen to us?"
"I don't know." There was a short silence, "Since I woke up in this place, I have heard nothing, seen nothing and felt nothing on the floor or on the walls. I have got lost in thought and lost consciousness a few times. I have gotten confused about what time of day it is. I haven't known whether to fall asleep or not. I don't know why they locked me down here without tying me up, but torturing me by letting me have a bit of freedom and walking around and I'm still in this dark place with no escape..."
"Wait. you're not tied up?" Nat said.
"No, I'm guessing you are."
"Yes my wrists and ankles are tied up." she replied, confused as to why they did it.
"I'm starving. No food and no water for four days," Henry said with an edge to his voice and then he trailed off to sleep. When Natalie realised this, she too was exhausted and fell asleep onto the cold concrete floor as well.
