Planning

(2 of 5)

By Katie Wright

It was a humid September day here in Elgin. Brantley had asked me earlier in the week to got o the county fair, held in Austin. We both decided to go today, since we competed in the rodeo last night. I had placed third in my category, just because of time. Brantley placed second; thankfully he wasn’t hurt when he was thrown.

I decided I should start getting ready, since Brantley was due to arrive in twenty minutes. I rushed to my closet to find my Kenny Chesney concert t-shirt, a pair of boot cut jeans that had a few holes close to the knee. I looked at my shoe wall; yes I have a shoe wall, to find a pair of boots to wear. I picked out a simple brown pair. I changed into my outfit quickly; I left my jeans over my boots. I ran into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I brushed through my hair, which surprisingly was cooperating today. I went over to my vanity and looked in my jewelry box. I found just what I was looking for. I placed the necklace Brantley had gotten me for our three month anniversary around my neck. The necklace was a silver heart with an infinity sign and two B’s engraved on the back. Just as I clasped the necklace I heard his truck outside. I hurriedly grabbed an hair elastic and my phone before I flew down the stairs to open the door and into Brantley’s awaiting arms.

“Hey B.” he greeted me with a peck on the lips

          “Hey babe.” I stated cheerily.

          “You ready?”

          “Yeah.”

We walked out the door hand in hand to his truck, where he opened the passenger door for me. I climbed into the jacked up truck and slid over to the center seat. Brantley jumped in and turned the key. As soon as, the truck roared to life, he backed out and we were on our way.

The drive was very short, fifteen minutes at the most. The majority of the ride was spent singing our favorite country songs

When we arrived to the fair grounds there were several cars already in the parking lot. Brantley found a parking spot a few rows form the gate. After he parked and cut the engine, he got out, leaving the door open for me. I slid over and jumped down into Brantley’s strong arms.

We walked through the gate after he paid for our armbands, so we could go to any exhibits, shows, and we could ride anything as many times as we wanted. Since neither of us had eaten we decided we would eat fair food. We seen a tent for hamburgers and hotdogs, we both got a hamburger with chips and a drink. We went to an empty table to eat. We sat down and dug in, making light conversation.

When we finished we walked through some exhibits, so that our food could settle. We walked through the livestock exhibit looking at all the cute animals. The pigs were semi cute, because they were so chubby. The baby sheep where the cutest to me; they were so little and fluffy.

Since the rides would still be open after the tractor pull, we went to it. The tractor pull lasted about an hour. We then went to the rides and rode the ones that spin and make people dizzy.

“Do you want to go ride the Ferris wheel then go camping?” Brantley questioned.

“Sure. I haven’t been camping in forever.” I excitedly stated

We went in got in the short line, that we got through relatively quick. We got into the little umbrella cart that would lift us into the sky. Brantley knew how much I hated the Ferris wheel, I have a big fear of heights, so it came as a shock that I agrees to ride it.

The cart slowly started rising. When we got to the top Brantley started moving around.

“Brantley Chase, you better stop.” I said finding something to hold onto. I had my eyes shut.

“B, look at me,” He pleaded I felt Brantley grab my hand, “Please B.” I finally looked at him. He was on one knee at the top of the Ferris wheel; my hand flew up to my mouth.

“Brooklyn, you are the most beautiful person I have ever met, inside and out. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. B, will you marry me?” I couldn’t speak, so I just nodded my head yes. He slid a velvet box from his jean pocket. He placed the ring on my left hand. The ring was stunning; the band was an infinity band that had diamonds covering the whole band, in the center there was a small oval cut diamond. Brantley knew me so well, I love understated beauty. Even though this had several diamonds it wasn’t flashy.

Before he got back up I pulled his face to mine and kissed him.

“I love you.” I said when we broke away from the kiss the Ferris wheel slowly started its descent form the top. Finally, my feet were on solid ground.

“I love you, but you know I hate the Ferris wheel.” I said hugging him.

“I know, I thought it would be memorable.” He answered kissing my forehead.

We left the fair to go camping when it hit me that I didn’t have any clothes.

“Babe I don’t have any clothes.” I said voicing my thoughts.

“I got a couple shirts from Kelsie, I thought you would be okay with a pair of my sweats.” He said.

“So thoughtful.” I said kissing his cheek.

“We finished walking out to his truck before we left. He drove West of Austin about an hour, before we arrived at a lake. There was a small cabin beside the lake. Brantley got the bags as I was getting out of the truck. We walked up the narrow dirt path and onto the small front porch, before walking in.

The cabin was a cozy two room building. One room held the bedroom and a bathroom, the other had the living area, which contained a couch and a couple of end tables; a kitchenette that held the bare minimum. The living room also contained a small wood burning fireplace.

Brantley came up behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist, nuzzling his head in my neck.

          “This is gorgeous.” I said.

“It is, but not near as gorgeous as you.” He said.

          “Cheesy much?”

          “Oh yes.”

“I guess we should at least pick a date for the wedding, since the six months is up in a couple months.”

“Yeah. When do you want to get married?”

          “In June.”

          “When in June?”

          “How about June 14,2014?”

“Perfect.” That night we fell asleep in each others arms discussing parts of the wedding.
