"Veronica!  You're checking out."

Okay.

I rushedly shoved my pencil case and papers into my backpack, and threw it over my shoulder as I walked away from my desk.  5th period was just halfway through before lunch, but I'm glad I'm leaving early.  This place drives me crazy.

"Here is your pass to the office.  Don't forget to study for the vocabulary, grammar, and infinitive verbs quiz for tomorrow, okay?  Hasta manana." Senora Gonzalez waved after handing me a yellow piece of paper with my name scribbled out.

Thanks.

I pushed open the door and continued down the hallway which seems forever to walk in.  You might've heard a pin drop in here.  I guess this is the time to introduce myself then.

Well, you already know my name.  I'm currently in hell as a "Freshman Fishy" as the upperclassmen called us.  Just two more months until school's out.  Turning 16 in October.  Whoop.  I'm getting old.  I'm not that interesting, but hey, I'm still going through this freaky phase when I try to find the real me.

I see my mother in the office, waiting for me.  Her arms are crossed with her right hand dangling the car keys.  She stepped out of the office and met up with me.  "Let's go, hija.  We're going to be late for your appointment."

We began walking towards the exit.

 Mom, can I drive?

"Not today.  It's like an hour away so it's better for you to drive short distances."

But I'm--

"Vamos." Mom lead us out the doors into the sunny environment.  "And keep your voice down."

Tiny birds popped around in the dirt nearby, scavenging for their natural resources.  Their beaks snapped open and shut, but there was no sound.  A sigh left my mouth.

The van beeped twice, signaling that it's unlocked.  Luckily, Mom got to sit in the driver's seat as I sat in the passenger's, locking in my seatbelt.  It scratches at my neck.  Ugh.  I pulled down the visor that was above me to take a look at myself in the mirror.

Warning! DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur.  Children 12 and under can be killed by the airbag.  The BACK-SEAT is the SAFEST seat for children.

I immediately pushed the visor back up.  My eyes felt watery.  Just move on.

"Ready to go?" Mom spoke up.  Her seatbelt was on, and her hands gripped the steering wheel.

Yep, let's go ahead.
