Let's go back to the beautiful day, when I was put in another still soul to make a space for it on this beautiful planet people called Earth.
I was ecstatic.
As always, the initial process of being with someone who knows nothing about me excites me every time. It always makes me feel mysterious, unknown even.
From one of the characteristics people have come up about me, I also like to be unpredictable. Although, I don't agree with it, as in my opinion, I give my fair share of warning beforehand. It's just that majority of them don't get me, even if I'm a part of them.
But on this occasion, I was again an anonymous object, and I loved it. I loved when a married couple was given the news they were going to be parents. I loved when their eyes lit up and the pregnant woman cried from happiness.
It was an emotional yet happy day for me.
When they reached home, they told the good news to their relatives, and as always is the case, everyone congratulated them. But there was one,who added a bit of a sad touch to this joyful day by saying, "I just hope it's a boy,"
All my excitement vanished, and what consumed me was a terrified thought of being forced to face death before my time. I was terrified of what might come, as many times, I was not given the pleasure to be with someone just because I was in the body of a girl.
But, when I heard the answer, I heaved a sigh of relief, "It doesn't matter, Ma. For me, what matters is the health of the baby. Nothing else is important," A male voice rang in my ears loud and clear and my happiness returned again.
It was quite some time before they could hear the heartbeat of the baby, but when they did, happiness and awe spread in the room. It was not new to me as I'd seen people experience it on many occasions, but it was enchanting nonetheless.
As time passed, the baby started to grow, and I too with it.
On one of these days, when clouds were threatening to spill, and everybody was enjoying a great lunch, the baby couldn't resist anymore, and, in human's language, the woman's water broke.
A surge of nervous energy broke through the entire room when she screamed, but some got up to their feet and helped her up, and prepared to take her to the hospital.
The same lady whose desire for a baby boy was so much, she even started praying for the same. But I knew, soon she was going to be disappointed in me, as I had made myself very much comfortable in a beautiful, delicate, elegant and yet strong baby girl's soul.
Maybe it was the thought of another soul coming alive, or the fact that the universe was trying to compensate for the negative energy, clouds that had threatened to spill, boomed so loud, the rain didn't pour, it fell hard on the surface of the Earth noisily, just when the woman reached the premises of a nearby hospital.
From where I was right now, male members were not allowed in the delivery room, so the father to-be had to sit back and wait in the waiting area, while the other ladies accompanied the woman into a delivery room.
I was taken with great deal of caution by everyone. Some prayed for the baby's health, and some were just trying to fulfill their duty and waiting to call it a day.
It took the baby three hours to come out. Mind you, as enthusiastic as it sounds, I've to tread carefully so as not to create any havoc inside the womb.
So, slowly it might be, the baby was brought into this world, and I with her. The news spread across the hospital waiting area quickly, and a wide smile spread across a man's face. It was at this point of time, he understood the meaning of being called a father.
Then the question was asked, "Girl you say?" noiselessly amongst the other relatives. Some shook their head in reproval when the answer was positive, but congratulated the couple nonetheless with a fake yet cheery smile.
Then how could we forget about the woman, who was praying for a baby boy, right? Her reaction was different from all when she answered the phone within a second.
The word she so desperately wanted to hear didn't reach her ears, instead what she heard was the word 'girl', and I fell apart for her. She started crying hysterically after muttering "Girl? A girl?" and disconnected the phone immediately.
But then, there were two people, who were extremely happy. A woman who'd just managed to be a part of a miracle, and a man, who was crying out of happiness for becoming a father to a girl.
Right then, I was being welcomed, even begrudgingly so by some, but welcomed nonetheless.
