Nothing could save me from the consequences. Nothing. I knew that I was doomed the moment I saw his eyes. I had never seen him so angry before. This was like a completely different person that I was witnessing.

"It's going to be okay", Cain whispered in my ear,as if that would comfort me.
I smiled lest I might seem rude or arrogant.

My brother, Cain, has always been dad's favourite for obvious reasons. Dad and Cain looked exactly alike: the same fierce eyes, the same dark skin and of course the same anger.

He always followed all of dad's stupid orders and made me follow the same. But he was the one who always helped me escape dad's punishments so I liked him.

In the dimly lit cave , I couldn't help but notice how beautiful he looked whenever he spoke to me because it was the only thing that did not make him angry.

"You have broken the rules and you shall receive your punishment ", Dad thundered and the entire cave shook with the intensity of his voice. I had almost forgotten about him ,in my reverie.

"We could do that some other time. Right now I need you to see something,"Cain interrupted, like always.

A little smile escaped my lips. Thankfully Dad didn't notice it. He was looking at the ground, deep in thought.

I glanced over at Cain and he winked at me. Of course he was going to handle this one as well. I had no reason to worry as long as I had my brother with me.

"Why don't you go and handle it Cain?" Dad said.

"I can't do it without you," Cain replied.

"Of course you can. Now get out of here."

"But Dad.." Cain started. Dad cut him short and yelled," Get out!"

It was the first time Dad had raised his voice on Cain. And I knew that this time I had fucked up real bad.

Cain had to leave although he clearly didn't want to. He gave me a slight nod to let me know that I would have to be polite. I nodded back to reassure him. Honestly, I did not have any other option.

As soon as Cain left, I started trembling. There was no one to save me now.

"He is really obedient. I wish you were so but you are just bent on disobeying me. I don't know what happiness you get from insulting me," Dad said in his always-serious voice.

I stood quietly, waiting for him to tell me that I won't be able to eat for the next few days or something.

The few times when Dad was so exceptionally angry that even Cain was not able to quieten him, this was the punishment that I had received.

Although I did not have to suffer even a little bit because Cain would bring me the leftover food without acknowledging Dad.

It would have been so much nicer if Cain would have been my Dad instead of.. well..my Dad.

But of course what else can you be expecting from the Devil. At least that's what the mortals say. I don't know about the truth nor am I interested in knowing the truth.

"Why are you so interested in the forbidden room?" Dad asked me.

I just looked down at the ground and tried to avoid the question.

He asked again, "Are you curious about the mortals, the humans?"

I knew Dad would get more angry if he didn't get an answer so I nodded. I couldn' t tell him the truth.

The truth that I was mesmerized by the beauty of a human and so I had disobeyed my father and sneaked into the forbidden room, unnoticed, to steal a quick glance at her.

Unfortunately Damien, Dad's assisstant steward, had caught me and brought me before Dad.

"Well , if you are so very interested in the humans, why don't you go spend some time with them. You know....get to know them better. "

I stood dumbfounded. My voice choked. I couldn't make a single sound.

"I'll tell Damien to make all the arrangements. You'll leave tomorrow morning."

Then he began to leave.
But just when he had reached the door, I regained my voice and screamed,"No!"

"Is there a problem? "he asked, half turning.

I was thinking about a proper excuse, he turned towards me and started approaching me.

When his face was just a few inches away from mine, he gave me the penance stare and asked me the same question again.

"You should probably talk to Cain before making such an important decision, " I finally managed to get out.

"You don't have to bother about that. He'll understand ." And with that he left the cave.
