When two girls awoke from their slumber, they usually saw her already awake, looking out the window she looks out into everyday before they wake up. Usually by the time the two girls woke up, she was already dressed and ready for the day. But today was different. Today was the day of The Sorting. She just sat in her bed, looking straight at the bland wall in front of her.

"What in the world are you doing?" 8101 looked back to see 8121 staring at her, "Wondering what will happen today?"

8101 looked over, "Why do you care." she asked.

"Because you look foolish!" the girl laughed and stood up.

"Have you guys heard?" another girl, 8135, sat up from the bed she shared with 8121.

"What? I'm all about the gossip!" 8121 sat down next to her.

"That the Mayor Brooks' kid was born in the year 81!" 8135 said.

"Wha-?"

"Amazing! I can't believe it! I could be the mayor's daughter!" 8121 cried. 8101 pulled the covers over her head, to drown out the sound. She could still hear the girls conversation, but she blocked out the words that were stinging her here, then there. Why? Because she didn't want them to be the mayor's daughter. She wanted to be the mayor's child. Everyone did.

The pain was hard to overcome, but the fear itself was its own challenge. Fear of finding out her parents are dead. Fear of getting sorted into a bad group just because Ms. McIntire wrote up a bad report. Fear of finding out she had a twin.

As the girls kept on blabbing and blabbing, fear and pain soon left 8101's body as she pulled out the most sacred thing she kept. Her journal. Once you are sent away from your parents, the parents are allowed to give one thing to their child. Most parents gave their children rattles or stuffed animals, but 8101's parents gave her the journal. She hides the journal under her mattress so 8121 and 8135 can't find and read her most deepest thoughts. Things she doesn't want share with anyone.

8121 quickly pulls the covers off of 8101 just in time for her to hide her book under her pillow. Though, 8135, glanced in the corner of her eyes to see 8101 breathing heavily, and saw the small movement 8101 made before.

"Um, 8121?" she mumbled.

"YES?!" 8121 said, annoyed.

She sighed, "Look under her pillow," 8135 said, more confident this time. 8101 felt the color drain from her face as 8121 reached for under her pillow. 8101 quickly covered the pillow making it sure 8121 couldn't get to it.

"Ah, I see that a little girl doesn't want us to see what's under that pillow?" 8121 asked, as she quickly went for 8101's pillow, but 8101 blocked the it just in time.

"I'm not a little girl, I'm older than both of you," 8101 claimed.

"We all know that, but who pays attention to someone's number?" 8121 said. 8101 saw 8135 give a small chuckle under her breath.

"Um, everyone does," 8101 said, a small chuckle leaving her mouth just like 8135. 8121 was about to open her mouth to say something when the door flung open, leaving a figure with a decent sized mole in between her upper lip and nostril in the doorway.

"What! In! The! World were you girls talking about! You woke me up!" the woman barked at the three young ladies.

8101 snorted, "You should've already been up before the sun rise,"

"Well, I slept in,"

"You can lose your job and get sentenced to death if you do that," 8101 said. 8135 just smiled, while 8121 frowned.
