Just at that moment Simmons runs round the corner. She sees Coulson clutching May and sobbing and she knows that her suspicions were right, he's always loved her. They get May back to base as quickly as possible so Simmons can properly operate on her. The entire time she's operating her heart is racing, she has to save May. Even though May doesn't show her emotions much, Simmons still loves her. But mainly she has to save May for Coulson's sake.
May's eyes gently flutter open and she feels a hand on hers, Coulson's. As soon as he notices that she's awake he clasps her hand "How are you feeling?" "Better, because you're here" She manages a weak smile. "You know I'm never letting you out of my sight again" he says sincerely. "I hope you're not going to become one of those overprotective boyfriends" May chuckles. "Boyfriend? Who said anything about..." But before he can finish his sentence Melinda leans up and kisses him. As Phil kisses her back he feels the happiest he's felt in a long long time. They gently pull apart and May moves over on the bed so that Phil can sit next to her. He leans down towards her so they're lying next to each other. Right before they kiss May interrupts, "Oh and Phil..." Coulson pulls away looking worried. "I've always loved you too." As she finishes her sentence Phil grins down at her with relief. He leans down again and places a hand behind her head. As they start to kiss, Melinda wraps her arms around him and their kissing intensifies.
