Forgiveness

That fight. That one, intense, mind thrilling, life or death depending, haunting, nightmare of a fight still hasn't left Shadows mind, despite how much he knew he should be furious that the idiotic doctor ruined his chances of defeating his enemy, he couldn't help but feel guilt, yet he couldn't figure out why, and it was really getting in his nerves, he now stood near a quiet little pond that hid in the forest, some where in the secluded side of the island, he basically called it his home, there was a small tent made out of leafs and sticks, it was the only thing he had besides his pride, he wasn't one to rely on others, he always believed it as showing weakness to your enemies, and that was the last thing on his mind he would want to happen, he threw a rock into the river, sighing in agitation, and then let out a chuckle. "I don't get it, I nearly killed him, if that idiot of a doctor wasn't there, I would've had him in my grasp, I could've been able to end his life in the palm in my hand, yet, the thought of me doing that just gives me this useless pile of guilt.......Why?" Then for some reason, memories of the past came back.

~Memory Time~
It was a sunny day in the village, kids were laughing, playing tag, chatting, all that normal stuff, while a small ebony hedgehog sat alone in the shade of a tree, he wore an over sized black shirt with red shorts, with his usual gloves and golden wrist bands, no body would barely notice him, usually boys like him would be rough housing and what not, but the child himself was quite peaceful, sometimes being seen petting or talking to a bird or a squirrel, and for that reason, he was always made fun of, over time, it began to dissolve his confidence, and left him nothing but an easy target, so he'd usually keep to himself, today was just one of those days where he'd usually talk to a wild animal, a squirrel, he'd usually ask silly little questions. "How are you so hyper? Do you guys have an infinity supply of sugar you eat?" Like that, that squirrel just twitched and scratched his head, then looked to the side and screeched, running back up the tree, he cocked his head to the side, but his blood went cold when he heard all to familiar voices. "Well, well, well, look what we have here?" He cautiously turned around and was faced what most of the other kids called the 'Lightning Bolts Society' Their was Willy Walrus, the muscle, Chameleon, who for some reason like to dress up like a tree, also the brains, and then the leader, Dave, they were all giants compared to him, while he was a shrimp, actually, he was kinda a shrimp to everyone, despite him being seven, he cowered back against the tree, his back hitting the bark. "P-please leave me a-alone." "Or what? You'll get your animal buddies to throw nuts at us? Oh I'm so scared!" They all laughed and walked towards the small hedgehog who closed his eyes, waiting for the torment to begin. "Step away from the kid." An unfamiliar voice said, they all looked towards the voice and saw a blue hedgehog, he wore a scarf that was clearly too big for him, red shoes, gloves, sports tape around his ankles and arms, and had emerald green eyes, he had a stern look across his face, glaring holes into the duos heads, who began to shake in fear, well, except Dave. "Or what? Are you gonna tell on u-?" *BAM!* Dave came tumbling to the ground, his teeth slightly out of shape and his nose bleeding, he looked back up at the hedgehog, who now had a slight bit of blood on his right gloved hand, his eyes narrowed. "Want me to say it again?" "LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!!" The three ran away, screaming and leaving the two hedgehogs be, the emerald eyed one sighed and looked back at the one who was about to be attacked, and walked over to him, placing a comforting hand on his head. "Hey, it's ok, I'm not gonna hurt you, I'm Sonic, Sonic The Hedgehog, you?" The ebony one looked up, rubbing away a bit of his tears. "I-I'm Shadow, Shadow The Hedgehog." "Cool name, mind if I hang out with you for a bit?" "S-sure." Sonic sat down, looking off into the distance.........Awkward silence, both of their worse enemies. "Hey, uh, Shadow right?" "Y-Yeah?" "How old are you anyway?" "Seven, y-you?" "I'm seven as well, but I'm not sure if I believe you." Shadow gave the blue hedgehog a questioning look. "What a-are you implying?" "Oh nothing, just the fact you sound like a piglet on helium." "H-hey! That's not very nice!" Sonic let out a small laugh, finding Shadows embarrassed expression absolutely adorable. "Sorry, sorry, it's just you're so short." "Y'know what? When we turn fifteen and if I'm still shorter then you! You can kiss me!" Sonic smiled, noticing that Shadow seemed to stop stuttering, he stood up, and held out his hand. "You've got yourself a deal short stack." Shadow smiled and shook Sonic's hand, when Sonic smirked and leaned in and lightly kissed Shadows cheek, laughing and then running, it took Shadow a few second to process on what just happened and when he did he blushed bright red and began to chase his new friend. "YOU BUTT!! GET BACK HERE!!" "YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!!!"
~Next Memory~
The two hedgehogs sat under the same tree they had met, looking up at e starry night sky, it had been three years since they first met, both of them now ten. "Hey, Sonic?" "Yeah?" "Can you promise me something?" "Of course dude, what's up?" Shadow sighed, he turned face Sonic with hopeful eyes. "Promise me that if one of us turns evil, we'd still be able find a way to be friends, please?" Sonic's eyes slightly widened, why would a thought like that occur to Shadow? but he chuckled and smiled. "I promise."
~Memory over~

Shadow let those two words replay in his head 'I promise', now he understood why he was guilty, because of what happened many years ago, and he began to notice, during their fight, Sonic really seemed to slightly wince every time he'd hit Shadow, especially when he was thrown into a house, and he could have sworn he saw guilt in those emerald eyes, and the guilt just kept on growing in his chest, he didn't even notice the tears falling from his ruby eyes, into the river, he sighed and wipe his tears and stood up. "Well, it's clear I don't want to kill him, nor do I hate him........I suppose that day just got to me......Well, I better make things right." And he teleported away, knowing where Sonic would probably be.

(With Sonic)
Sonic sat under an old tree, the same tree he met the person he once held dearly to him, he sighed, birds were chirping and singing, and kids were playing and the others were going home, the memories he once had here came down like a waterfall, and he turned back around to the tree, carvings were drawn everywhere, tally marks, rings, and in the middle were the words 'Sonic + Shadow= BFF' BFF, Best Friends Forever. 'Heh, more like Best ENEMIES.........forever.' Sonic thought to himself, the thought making his eyes water, but he held them back, he was about to leave when he heard a twig snap, and whipped, coiling into a fighting stance, and saw red eyes. "Shadow!" Shadow stepped out, his hands in the air in surrender. "Easy, I don't want to fight." "Well that's new." Sonic crossed his arms, his guard still not down, he knew Shadiw had many tricks up his sleeves, so putting his guard down was like stabbing yourself with a knife.........."I'm sorry." "What?" Sonic was a little taken back, what was Shadow talking about? "I'm sorry about all of...........this, happening, we used to be inseparable in till that day, I shouldn't have never gotten to mad at you, nor at anyone else *Sniff* I-I know it's probably too late for everyone else to f-forgive me, heck, I-it might as well be to late for y-you to forgive me *Sniff* But, as you'd l-like to say, it's best to get t-things off your chest while you c-can, right?" Tears were falling like wild fire from Shadows eyes, he sniffed and rubbed away his tears, just about ready to leave. "Well, n-now that we have that out of the way, I-I guess I'll just lea-" It happened so quick, one moment he was about to leave, the next moment he was pulled into a hug, Sonic's arms were a wrapped around his waist, tight enough as if he would disappear, Shadow was stiff as stone, unsure how to handle the situation. "It's never to late for anyone to forgive you, and it's never to late for ME to forgive you, we're best friends, aren't we? And I don't break promises." Sonic pulled away from the hug, a smile playing on his face, and reassurance in his bright emerald green eyes, Shadow just stood their wide eyed, taking in each word the blue hedgehog had just said, and tears began to rise from his eyes and fall to the ground, and after a long time and many years....................He smiled, a small, happy, sweet smile played on his lips, it was something Sonic hadn't seen in a long time, he almost forgot how much Shadows ruby eyes would seem to glow when he smiled, butterflies began to fly in his stomach, but he paid no mind to it, he was just happy to see his friend smile again. "Thank you Sonic, you have no idea how much that means to me." "Any time buddy, I'm just glad we can be friends again." Sonic then remembered something and smirked. "Saaaaay~, remember that little deal you made when we were kids~? What was it again~? Something about you kissing me if you were still shorter then me when we're fifteen? Yeah, that's right." 'SHOOT!!!! I thought he would forget that!' Shadow blushed in embarrassment, he was in fact still shorter then Sonic, despite how strong he was, he huffed and crossed his arms. "Well, I have no memory of that what so ever, we may be friends again, but that still won't stop me from seriously harming you." "And it wouldn't stop me from doing this~" "Wh-MPH?!" A pair lips stopped him in his sentence, Sonic's arms being yet again wrapped around Shadows waist, he clenched his fist and was ready to punch Sonic in the stomach, but the kiss oddly felt.........Right, fireworks were exploding in side his heart, and his mind told him that this was right, he didn't even notice his fists being unclenched and wrapping his arms around Sonic's neck, who smiled into the kiss, maybe they could be more then best friends....
