The world is not perfect #1

This will be a new topic that I'm going to discuss in my account. If a certain topic about a certain world view comes to mind, I will do it under these headings. I don't know, maybe if I have enough posts, I can shift this to another book.

So here is what's bothering me. I just watched a video from TOMONEWS about the death of our (Singapore's) founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, which occurred a few years ago.

The video was also published long ago - I just happen to stumble upon it. In it, it says that our founding father was a dictator and the country is not run under democracy even though we grow up learning that it is. It was about the arrest of Amos Yee as he seriously insulted our founding father and posted it on Youtube. The video stated that there is no freedom of speech in Singapore even though we are taught that there is such a thing while growing up. They also said that he shouldn't have went through all of the punishments for it as there is 'freedom of speech in Singapore."

Hey, I'm not going to deny all of these information because, certainly some of the things we have been taught at schools may not be fully true. Propaganda is vast around the world, and Singapore has no exceptions to it. There ARE some things that I already know contradicts to what have been told to us.

But that is not the problem. The first problem is the fact that there is no objective view of this topic. I scrolled down to the comment section and what I saw horrified meh. Singaporeans and people from all over the world lashing out at each other, only supporting their own point of view. There is no 'giving way' here, which led to many comments having an endless trail of to-and-fro arguments.

For the sake of convenience, I'm gonna have to categorize non-Singaporeans from the comment section as 'the rest' as of now, and no offense. If anyone is offended I sincerely apologise.

Singaporeans defending Mr Lee Kuan Yew as the BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST, and the rest calling him a dictator for no giving a freedom of speech. Everyone is insulting everyone, and it is just a mess. Chaos, arguments. I can hear them loud and clear in my head, imaginary voices piercing through my eardrums as I jumped from comment to comment, reply to reply.

It pains me to see people in this state. No one likes to lose, and everybody wants to win. It's like Yin and Yang without their own little self in each other. No harmony, no empathy, no acceptance. It's a whole 'I want to win, so I'm gonna put you down so hard that you can't even get back up, and I'm gonna do it till your will fades and give up... no matter what."

And this leads to the second problem - lack of respect. Both parties don't respect each other's background, country, people, views, and the person themselves. The most basic principle is not there. So what now?

I as a person values respect as one of if not the most important value. Treat other's the way you want to be treated. It really works! Have you ever done it before? Just as the principle holds, it can be applied here as well. If you want the opposing party to consider your views, consider theirs. Maybe they can understand, and in the end, form a connection. This is how WE as humans connect, no through money or fame or friends or families; we connect by understanding one another, learning each other's stories, about who they as a person, as a HUMAN like you truly is.

Have you ever sat down with a person and just talk and you just can't stop? It is because you and him/her merge into one shared connection. A harmony is complete. I've always find camps very......rushed. They get us together, gather us into one group and...... start to play team-building games? We haven't established ourselves as a team yet. No actual connection has been made. It feels very awkward. And lonely sometimes...

Another thing. I will not forgive this Amos Yee guy. People say he should be let off as there is 'freedom of speech' in Singapore. Yes there is, but there are limitations to what we can say. No......more like principles. Who would go around social media yelling that he is happy that your country's founding father is dead? He lacks respect, gratitude, tact and so many other values. If he wants to think of it this way, then keep it to himself. Why risk it and humiliate yourself?

At the end of the day, the world is not perfect. Yet, I stand my ground and hold my values. I just wish that there is less hatred in the world. First step in connecting - Respect.
