It wasn't that she was scared of love, but that she was scared of how similar love and hate really are. She knew love really was a beautiful thing as a whole. What she was afraid of was that love and hate have such a fine line separating each other. Love and hate are based on the same emotions and there are only small details setting the two apart. She wasn't afraid that he would once come to hate her because she believed that if you really loved someone that you could never really hate them. However, she was afraid that he would eventually get to the point where he wished he hated her, or when he wanted to hate her instead of love her.
