Part Three

"Sir!" Sebastian came running back into the precinct.

"Seb, what are you doing here?" Talia frowned.

"Captain! I need to speak to you, now!" Sebastian ignored his fellow detectives.

"Seb." Natasha grabbed the other's arm. "What the hell is going on?"

"Detective Reynolds?" Captain Cooper emerged from his office.

"It's Jamie," Sebastian said. "He's been kidnapped."

"I'll ask you one more time," the masked figure snarled. "Where is he?!"

James gasped for breath, trying hopelessly to break free of his bonds.

"Answer me!"

"I don't know!" James managed. "I don't even know who you're talking about!"

The figure shook his head. "I'm afraid that isn't good enough, Hennepin. Not good enough."

"It's--it's the truth!" James exclaimed desperately. The other man's eyes glinted with satisfaction as his henchman placed the cloth back over James' face.

"I wish we could have resolved this amicably," the man said, not sounding regretful in the least. James choked back a scream as the water hit his face once more.

"His cell phone last pinged here." Connor pointed to James' apartment. "Uniforms found it tossed in a garbage can."

Sebastian curled his hands into fists. "This is my fault. I told him to go home."

"This is not your fault, Seb," Natasha snapped. "It's the goddamn creep who did it. So quit moping and help us find James. You know him better than anyone. Who would be out to get him?"

Sebastian lifted his head to make eye contact with Natasha. "There are a lot of names that come to mind."

"Then we'd better get started," Talia said.
