Kathy Holland was abandoned by her mother at age two, leaving with her drunken father. Another year later and social services picked her up. The next ten years she spent switching from foster home to foster home. She had seen children her age get into drugs, or resort to stealing to stay alive. Even Kathy joined in. Better than dying right?

So how, at age 30, was she working with the most powerful man in the country, living in a beautiful apartment building, and getting paid 100,000 a year? Total luck. At age 15 she was adopted into a family whose mother previously had her job. Kathy was sent to high school, to university, and sent to get an internship. Which led her to where she was today.

It was a late Thursday evening. Kathy had gotten off late and missed the subway, it was raining and there were never any cabs out when she needed one. Jessica, her assistant had lent her an umbrella just in case, and Kathy made a mental note to thank the girl.

As she finally reached the steps a sound of whimpering caught her attention.
