The sun was shining brighter than it had been in months, placed highly into the clear blue sky. The weather was one to be delighted by, and that was totally pissing me off. Where was the rainstorm that always happened to signalize all the sad and catastrophic days in someone life? I could certainly use some rain now, so the tears that were treating with escaping my eyes will somehow be confused with the raindrops. But I didn't have such luck, and instead I found myself facing one of the brightest days I had witnessed in this pathetic piece of earth.
I took my suitcases and started to walk, holding my head high and determined despite the situation as I made my way through the gates of Prestton Academy, where my so claimed new life was about to start.
I stood inside, holding my breath as I took a look around the place where I will be held hostage for the next year. I was somewhat disappointed that it didn't reach the creepy torture chamber look that my brain had come to associate with the Academy, and reluctantly I had to admit to myself that in fact it looked majestic.
Imposing buildings were lined up by the valley, the one in the middle being bigger and more remarkable that the others surrounding it. The different pathways that lead to each building met around a huge porcelain fountain where groups of students were happily chatting and gossiping about their last summer. I made my way around the fountain and turned around when the sounded of loud laughter reached my ears.
A boy was standing in the middle of group of kids in their uniforms, everybody's attention fixed on him as he talked. The awe in their faces was clear from where I was and I could see why, the boy was stunning. He wasn't very tall, however, the way he held his posture. The way he knew he was the center of attention, completely made up for that. A girl by his side said something making him laughs, and she grinned so wide I feared her face would split in two.
Besides that the scene seemed straight taken of a teenage cliché movie, what put me off is how sincerely pleased they looked, not a single one of them faking a smile like I expected. There was also an edge hiding behind their laughter, something I couldn't identify but wasn't interested enough to look more into, so I settle for rolling my eyes and kept on walking.
I continued my walk ignoring the conversations that were developing in my surroundings, mildly appreciating the view that was expanding on both sides of my path and made it to my dorm without any interruptions, feeling exhausted by the time I found my room.
The room was bigger than my one back home, with two double beds placed against the pale green walls, a freshly cleaned bathroom in the far left and two closets big enough to hold my entire wardrobe and fit a dead body. A very useful reference for any inconvenient in the future.
Sighing, I gave the room a last look around before I collapsed in one of the beds, mumbling appreciative at the soft cotton of the pillow and letting myself drift slowly into sleep.
"Hi" A voice chirped next to my ear making me jump slightly. I opened my eyes to face a smiling blond haired girl way too close to my face. I glared openly at her; personal space didn't seem to be a thing for her.
"Oh! A moody one," Blondie exclaimed with a grin "My name is Marissa and I am your new roommate" She introduced herself way louder than it was necessary.
I could certainly feel a headache forming in my head. Don't get me wrong I love happy people. I just was not in the mood for happiness at the moment.
"Samantha," I mumbled back against the bed, closing my eyes again.
I could feel Marissa's eyes on me and as much as I wanted to ignore it, it was starting to freak me out a bit, so after a moment of hesitation I decided to stand up. Giving a more detailed look at her face and the huge grin that was set on it I tried to decide if she was more of the plain friendly type or smiling serial killer kind of girl. I hoped that it was the first one and anyway I would have plenty of time to figure it out myself.
