Handsome Devil is what inspired this book, so I felt it only fitting for it to be the first one listed. This Irish film is very new, having been released in the US in June of 2017, making it very relatable to current lgbtq struggles. I'd best describe it as a cross between Dead Poets Society and Geography Club (another film that will appear later on this list). It follows the story of two gay boys who attend an all boys boarding school in Ireland. They initially seem like opposites, one being the star rugby player and one writing his essays in song lyrics, but they are brought together by their English teacher and their beds being conveniently located next to each other (they're roommates). The larger message of the movie deals with the discreet (and blatant) homophobia embedded in our society and spreads an empowering message of overcoming these struggles and uniting as a community. It has a very John Green aesthetic however isn't focused on romance. Bonus! If you enjoy the BBC show Sherlock, the actor who plays Moriarty is one of the main cast members of this film. Also, the movie is conveniently available on Netflix, perfect for movie night or binge watching every gay movie you can possible find (me). If you watch it please let me know what you thought of it or if you have any questions.
Trigger warning: homophobia, but no extreme slurs that I can recall. Also at one point there's a fight and it gets a bit bloody. That's all I remember but if anyone thinks I should add any let me know!
