There once was a girl.
With a skip in her step
And a fire in her big brown eyes.
She wanted something new
And wanted to forget
Her bad decisions from a low point in her life.
And she found you.
She finally felt loved,
Accepted,
Free.
She couldn't remember ever being so happy.
She reached her peak.
This girl didn't realize
Her heart was on her sleeve.
You promised her you wouldn't leave,
And she was naive enough to believe.
And she fell for you,
Unexpectedly,
Unconditionally.
You let her fall,
But you didn't catch her.
You then wanted something new.
You didn't want her anymore.
You found a new toy, instead,
And kicked her to the curb.
You said she got too close,
But you didn't realize
That you took away half her heart
The day you said "goodbye."
You had become the spark
That lit her flame.
She would smile to herself
& get butterflies
At the mention of your name.
She knew she loved you,
And that that would never change.
Her heart longed for you every moment of every day.
Without you her light is gone.
She's lost.
She never would have let herself love you
If she knew there'd be a cost.
You were the flame that burned her.
You've given her scars,
That not only are on her body,
And in her mind,
But also on her heart.
Now she knows for sure
That you'll never come back.
She knows that happy, smiley girl
Is no longer who she is.
Her fire has gone out;
She has lost her flame.
She knows she got too close.
She knows she got burned.
But most of all, she knows
That she will never be the same.
