Those days were cold and windy

The air was thick with death

Our eyes red, lips blue

Frozen tears, clouds in our breath

The steel blue sky above us

A circle of grave despair

We stood with snakes, owls, and some

Gentle Kit-Kat collapsed in tears

On my phone screen smiling up at me

Sweet Roxie's pretty face

And I cursed everything about the Fenders

As policemen entered the space

Blood red cruelty in a snowy wood

Blue icicles in the night

Alice and I sat in each other's comfort

As we aided in the fight

But I awoke one morning to find

That one snake had to vigilante turned

Sweet Kit-Kat had set ablaze Jackson's car

The sleeping Fenders emerged badly burned

But in the ensuing chaotic mess

Dear Kit-Kat was struck by a passing train

Her hair forever dyed blood-red

An engine striking away her pain

But we found a note she'd left behind

Written on white paper in blue

"For as long as I'm alive

Roxie, I will always love you."

The Fenders spent awhile in prison

Following a round in the burn unit

But the townspeople soon realized

Those boys weren't worth our spit

June-Bug and the snakes gradually healed

As did the Owls and I

Though occasionally tears still fall

From our lady eyes

But I shall always remember

Sweet Roxie and Kit-Kat

Two girls with bad reps and hearts of gold

The victims of a world of rats

But their gentle eyes and multicolored hair

Stay always in our hearts

As the owls and I seek new adventures

Each morning a new start
