Sir Wallace and his young squire bowed deeply to the king and queen. The throne room was silent, a solemn air filled the usually lively area, the only sounds to be heard were the breathing The king stood and solemnly looked down at the two. King Andrew was an imposing figure, his large statue and resolute face gave am impression a powerful in charge man. He manage to soften his image by taking care to be kind to children and the elderly and have an easy smile for everyone. There was no trace of kindness or a smile on his face now. After giving the two a long piercing look he spoke, "When I was just a boy my late father thought it wise to have me study under a knight. He told me that it would teach me discipline, courage, honor and respect. The training was harsh and unforgiving, I was turned from a palace dandy into the man you see today. I will always value my time in the knighthood and the order of knight always has and will have a special place in my heart. Alexander." Alexander stood but kept his eyes firmly set on the ground,"My wife brought you here seven years ago, a thin, orphaned village boy with no where to go. We took you in gave you a home a place in the order of knight and tourtalage of one of our finest knights. I expect much from my knights but I expect even more from you perhaps too much,"King Andrew forced Alexander's head up and made him look him in the eyes,"and somehow you have managed to far exceed any of my expectations."
King Andrew smiled a Alexander and the tears that Alexander had tried to hide spilled down his cheeks," It is with great pleasure and personal pride that I bestow the metal of bravery onto Squire Alexander. With this metal Alexander will have earned 20 metals for everything from marksmanship to charitable works and this metal will make Alexander that most decorated squire in Cigam history. Stand tall and know that you have earned this great honor." With that the king place the metal into Alexanders palm. The throne room erupted with applause and Sir Wallace Led him out the room.
As soon as he stepped out he was tackled by Lilliana. "Good job Alex!"she said hanging on his neck.
She was pulled off by Briana,"Lilli try and have some decorum. Antics like this is why father will not allow us to take part in these ceremonies anymore."she lectured then turned to Alexander with a sweet smile,"Congratulations Alexander. It is a pleasure to know that our childhood friend is becoming such a commendable knight."
Alexander blushed hotly then nodded,"Honestly I dont see why everyone is making such a big deal about it. I only did what anybody would do under the circumstances."he said.
"I can name a ton of people who wouldn't have dived head first into a frozen lake with full armor on to save a peasant girl."Briana said shaking her head.
"Her station wasn't important she was a little girl and she would have died if I hadn't helped her."Alexander said.
Lilliana punched him on the shoulder,"It's cause you think like that that you get metals like that. But don't get a swelled head, remember that I had to nurse you back to health after you caught pneumonia from the cold water."
"You caused him to chock by trying to funnel the medicine down his throat."Briana said rolling her eyes making Alexander laugh and Lilliana stuck her tounge out at her.
"Well as much as I would love to keep remembering, I think that we have to go back to patrol now Sir Wallace." Alexander said but Sir Wallace waved him off.
"You earned a rest Alexander. Go have some fun."he said.
Alexander opened his mouth to object but Lilliana quickly grabbed him and started pulling him down the hallway. "Come on, come on."she said excitedly.
"Lilliana! We have our arithmetic lessons soon."Briana called after her. Lilliana started running with Alexander in tow. Briana sighed,"Our tutor is going to be so mad at me....again."
Sir Wallace just laughed,"You know how those two get when they're together."
Briana let out an indulgent sigh and nodded,"I just she would take her responsibilities as princess as seriously as she took playing around with Alexander."
"Don't worry your little head princess, someday Lilli will find that one thing that she's truly passionate about and after she finds that everything else will fall in place."Sir Wallace said sage-like.
"You always know the right thing to say." she said before turing away, "Well I have lessons to go to." Wallace waved her off then went on his way.
Little did they know that Lilliana had already found out what she was passionate about but the object of her obsession was forbidden to her.
