"Hey, it's okay. He's a dick anyway." Matt tries to comfort me.
I know but it still hurts that he just left without a second glance." I know this sounds like a cheesy breakup where the guy doesn't care about the girl, breaks up with her, leaves, and hooks up with other girls the day after and the girl is left to mend her broken heart and along the way she finds her soulmate and realizes she never loved her ex, but trust me, I don't do that cheesy crap. My bestfriend Jake just left us to play on a professional football team. Youngest player, 18 years old. Making history in sports. One time we joked about being in one of those English SOL's in the paragraphs where you study it and answer questions on the article. Now he probably will be in one. I had a dream once, more like a nightmare, about me having to take an SOL and having to read about him and answer questions on him. Don't get me wrong, I love how he is living out his dream of becoming a profession athlete, preferably football, but the way he left just hurts. The day of his plane ride at 9PM, I remember because that day changed my life, he come over to my Matt's house that I was at with him, and said goodbye. he didn't even give us any warning so we could try to spend more time with him before he left. Just a goodbye, and I'll try to see you again. I still remember the day we met.
Flashback
"But mommy!"
"No but's now come on."
"It's not fair!" it was my 5 birthday and mommy won't let me play princess with her, instead she's making me play with two other kids I don't know! It's not fair. It's my birthday! Mommy grabbed my hand and pulled me outside where two other kids were standing. One blond boy with bright blue-green eyes and one girl with bright blue eyes and blond pigtails. "MOMMY! I don't want to play with a boy!"
"Hush," My mommy said while looking at me sternly. "Go play"
I looked at face for a moment. Uh oh. I might get a whooping after this. Mommy has never done it to me but I've heard about it and it sounds scary. "Yes Mommy..." I walked over there.
"Hi, I'm Mattie, and that's my brother. He is Jake!" said the girl with the blond pigtails. "What's you're name?"
"My name is Riley. Hi Matt, hi Jake." I was only being nice because mommy was looking at me.
"It's Mattie, Riley"
"I can't say that" I got upset, mommy didn't let me get speech lessons because she thought I was too young, "I don't speak normal."
"It's okay. I still like you," Jake said, "Let's all be best friends!"
Flashback Over
At Rockwell High, Jake was the popular kid, he was 'handsome' and he played football. That's all the girls at school cared about, so obviously Jake was a ladies man. I had few other friends besides my so-called bestfriend Jake, and my other bestfriend Matt. We were the trio. We all had other friends but mine and Jakes were pretty much the same, and Matt's other friend were way different then ours. She was such a girly girl so she hung out with all the popular girls. Matt is one of the most popular girls, on the same social ladder as Jake and Shannon. Jake was the easy going guy, he was popular because you just get pulled to him by his relaxed personality. He is only not relaxed when somebody messes with me or Matt. He is like our brother. Shannon and Matt were both popular, in the sense that Shannon was popular because she can be pretty evil, and everybody is scared to be on her bad side, and of course she is a cheerleader with all her minions backing her up. Matt is popular, but because she is so nice and really pretty. She is like the average, but way more than average to the school, especially to Jake and I, girl next door. Which is pretty ironic, because Jake, Matt and I all are neighbors. Me in the middle, Matt on the left, Jake on the right. but back to social ladders. All the guy football players and the cheerleaders are on the rung just an inch below the top rung. They're pretty much on the top one, but Shannon, Matt and Jake all almost like the 'leaders' of the school. I'm not sure where I fit in. Different views might say I'm somewhere on the top, others would say the somewhere in the bottom. I'm not sure because most people are nice to me but mostly because Jake beats up anybody who messes with me, so they're scared of doing so. I say 'mostly' because sometimes, very rarely because Jake, Matt, and I have all the same classes, people pick on me. So I'm really not sure because I think some people genuinely like me.
Now you might be wondering what friends me and Jake might share, or why I said 'football guys'. You might've guessed it after that last sentence, but if not, I, Riley Mary Jones, am a football player for the Rockwell Royals.
