Tap, tap. Tap, tap. Seungkwan's fingers moved expertly along the patient's back as he percussed it, following a familiar routine that he'd learnt in med school and carried out thousands of times.
"Ok I'm just gonna have a listen to your chest now alright? Nice deep breaths in and out of your mouth for me, thanks." After quickly checking his stethoscope was switched to the right input Seungkwan placed it on the patient's back, attentively listening to the sounds of their breathing. As he moved his stethoscope around and continued to listen, Seungkwan's eyes wandered, drifting aimlessly around the ward until they landed on Hansol. Now bedecked in fetching light blue scrubs, which fit him as if they were tailor-made for him, the brunette sat staring at a computer screen, his face slightly twisted in confusion. He had cocked his head to the side in that way that Seungkwan had already come to adore, and was frowning slightly. Seungkwan smiled to himself, the infamous computer system was notoriously difficult to come to grips with and it looked like Hansol was struggling with it.
Maybe I should help him when I've done with this patient... oh shit this patient!
"Umm that's fine you can stop breathing deeply like that, sorry it took so long... no no, there's absolutely nothing wrong your lungs are clear! I reckon the antibiotics have worked their magic and we can likely send you home later today Mr... Richards." With a smile and a word of thanks from the patient he left the room and cursed himself for losing concentration whilst performing an examination. This Hansol kid was in his head too much already, and he'd only met him a few hours ago.
Despite his reservations he made a beeline straight for the adorably confused Hansol who was now just sat intensely staring at the computer screen.
"Are you casting a spell on it to try and make it work?"
"...Alohamora!" Hansol said after a short pause, with a grin on his face. "Nope even my magic can't save me, it's not letting me log on, and I need to review Mr Matthews bloods."
"Don't worry, the computers are temperamental at the best of times, and this one is known for being slow and shit. Jump on the nurses' terminal next to you, that one always works. The IT department are terrified of our matron so they make sure his computer works perfectly at all times."
"T-the nurses' terminal? Isn't that for... the nurses?" Doubt had crept over Hansol's face, he really didn't want to cause a fuss on his first day.
"We're a team here, don't worry about it, if matron comes just tell him that it was me that said you should use it. Oh, and be really polite, he's a stickler for that. Try not to be too scared when you talk to him either." Seungkwan smiled as he went to do his next task, leaving a slightly bewildered and terrified Hansol in his wake.
Hansol looked over at the nurses' terminal. How scary could this matron be? He moved over and put his card into the machine. It instantly blinked on and logged in, bringing up the patient database. Hansol pumped his fist, unironically. He'd been sat at the other "computer" for 20 minutes, and had a lot of work to get through. It took only a few seconds to find Mr Matthews' blood results and he began looking through them, cautious not to miss anything.
Right, they all look fine, I better just do a few more patients while I'm here.
That's what he was doing when he noticed someone standing to his left. He looked up at the newcomer, and was met by a pair of intense eyes fixed on him. The owner of the eyes was small and dressed in a nurses' outfit with a namebadge that had the word MATRON on it in big letters. Hansol saw that and blanched, before scrambling to stand up and get off the computer.
"Oh gosh, sorry, hi I'm Hansol I'm the new junior doctor. Umm sorry for using your computer, Seungkwan said it would be ok for a short while and the other one wasn't working. Uhh, yeah sorry again, it's nice to meet you... Jihoon, I hope I said that right. Ok well thanks again I'll get out of your way." Hansol's mouth ran at 100 miles per hour as he stammered and stumbled over his words. He stood up and stepped backwards slightly, nervously smiling as the matron continued to look at him, with smile on his face that made him seem even more terrifying. Hansol was much taller than Jihoon but the matron had an aura and presence that made him feel small, like a schoolboy scolded by the principal.
"It's ok love, he scares everyone the first time. And most of us forever afterwards as well. Don't worry about using our computer, you can use it whenever you need it as long one of us isn't. Oh, look you've left your card in the machine, here you go, take that with you." A voice from behind Hansol spoke up, and as he turned he saw the soft voice belonged to a tall, slender man with gentle feminine features. "I'm Jisoo but you can call me Joshua, everyone does. Don't let Jihoon scare you too much ok?"
"Heh, ok, thanks Jis- Joshua. It was nice to meet you. And, umm, you too Jihoon." The new doctor moved swiftly away from the nurses' station, clutching his card tightly and trying to escape the gaze of the two nurses he had just met.
Jihoon turned his eyes up to meet Joshua's and smiled warmly at him.
"Man, I love watching the new ones squirm."
