There was once a young princess named Darcie. She had luxurious black hair and eyes as bright as amethyst. She was born in the Kingdom of Maple. As time went by, she became more and more interested in the world. She asked her father one day if he'd teach her how to read and write. Her father was furious with her, so he sent her to her room and shouted, "No daughter of mine, or any daughter in the kingdom, shall be allowed to read and write!" Darcie ran to her room, tears streaming down her cheeks. When she got to her room she sat on the bed with her head low. All of a sudden she heard a knock on her door. She got up, wiping away her tears, and open the door to see a man with dark silky hair and eyes similar to Darcie's. He wore armor of the kingdom and a smirk on his face. "May I help you kind sir?" said princess Darcie. "Hello princess. My name is Leo. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but overhear you earlier. I heard that you wanted to learn how to read and write," he said. Darcie could see where this was going and started to get excited. "A-are you offering to teach me how to read and write?" she asked. Leo nods his head yes and spoke, "Meet me at my cottage behind the hill every night after your father is asleep and I will teach you." With that said, he left Darcie's room and headed home for the night. Darcie waved goodbye as he walked off and then shut door. She squealed happily and prepared herself for dinner, for later that evening she would learn to read and write. For the next few months Darcie learned more and more. Although, that's not the only thing she learned. With the free time left after each lesson, Leo would teach her how to fight. During one training session, Leo went up to Darcie and pulled out a dagger. "I want you to keep this. It was my  grandfather's. You can use this for defense whenever you need. But promise me you'll only use it for defense and nothing more," said Leo calmly. Darcie reached out and took the dagger for him. She studied the dagger and looked back up at him. "A-are you sure you want to give me this? It was your grandfather's," she said hesitantly. Leo nodded his head yes and randomly decided to compliment her, "You look very pretty today." Darcie was shocked by the sudden complement and her cheeks flushed red. "T-thanks," she said quietly. As more time went on Leo's feelings towards Darcie grew bigger than his skill in military. One day, Leo decided that he'd propose to Darcie we gets his next pay. The next day Darcie sat in her room reading a book while brushing her hair. As she read, she found herself getting distracted with the thought of Leo in her head. So she pulled out her journal that Leo had given her and wrote his name on the pages of the journal multiple times, thinking she can get the thought of him out of her head. All of a sudden, her father barged in and saw her writing in her journal and a book sitting on her bed. "What are you doing?" shouted the king. Darcie panicked, she threw the journal and quill across the room as if she did nothing. "Who taught you how to read and write?" he demanded. "N-no one," said Darcie quivering. The king walked over to where the journal laid open and picked it up. As he read the page it was open to, he read the name "Leo." His face grew grew pale and said hesitantly, "Leo, my best knight, taught you these things?" His face began to grow red with anger. "For breaking these rules, I shall have Leo executed, Tonight! And you, young lady. You shall be locked in your room and watch his execution from the window. And every guard will be on watch to keep you from interfering." The king marched out of the room, slammed the door, and locked it shut. Darcie ran to the door, trying to open it. The door wouldn't budge. She dropped to her knees and began to sob. Her head hung low and she lost all faith in trying to escape. Then she realized she still might have a chance to escape, but she'd have to plan quickly. For Leo will be executed in only a couple of hours. During the time Darcie was planning her escape, the king sent guards to Leo's house to bring him to the castle. Leo fought off most of the guards, but got caught off guard and got hit over the head, falling to the ground. A couple hours passed and there was only one hour until the execution. Darcie was ready to escape. She had the dagger Leo had given her hidden behind her back and walked to the door. She picked the lock and slowly crept out the door, looking both ways. A guard was at each end of the hall. Darcie had planned for this. "Ohhh, guards!" shouted Darcie in a chipper tone. Both guards looked with a shocked and angry expression printed on their face that she, a princess, made it out of a locked room. They darted toward her from both directions, yelling loudly. Right before they got to her, Darcie leaped into the air and watched as the two guards collided into each other. Both collapsing to the ground. Darcie didn't bother staying to check if they were okay, she had to get to Leo. Darcie fought her way through five more guards, grabbing an extra dagger from one of the guards as she went outside. When she got out, she saw the executioner standing there his hand on the rope. If Darcie had shown up two minutes later he would have already pulled the rope and the guillotine would have killed Leo. As the executioner started to pull the rope, Darcie threw the dagger she stole from the guard at the executioner's hand. The executioner groaned in agony, falling to his knees and cradling his hand with his other arm. The king looked over from his seating area and gasped. "What are you doing here? How did you escape?" he roared loudly. Leo looked at Darcie with relief on his face. "Y-you came for me," stuttered Leo. The king got up from his seat and started to run toward the guillotine. "If my executor can't kill him, I'll kill him myself!" he shouted. Darcie pulled out her dagger that Leo had given her and spoke, "If you're going to take the only thing I truly loved, then I'm going to take away the only thing you ever truly loved." With that said she took the dagger and thrust it into her side, collapsing to the ground. Leo screamed a loud sob. "No. NO!" he cried out. The king stood there, his face as pale as a ghost. The king slowly dropped to his knees with his head low. With all of Leo's effort and strength, he broke out of the guillotine and ran over to where Darcie's body lay and put his hand to her cheek. "Darcie. Darcie," cried Leo quietly. Darcie looked up at him with her eyes squinted and a slight smile on her face. "Darcie. Why? Why would you do this for me? I-I love you... I was going to propose. I-" Darcie interrupted Leo by hesitantly lifting her finger to his lips, signifying him to shush. "I love you too. But I did this for you. For us," said Darcie with her last breath. Darcie's body went limp, her cold corpse lying there in front of Leo. Tears streamed down Leo's cheeks, but his feeling of sadness that Darcie was dead was quickly replaced with rage. If it weren't for Darcie's father trying to execute Leo, then Darcie would still be alive. Leo pulled the dagger from Darcie's side, the dagger stained with her blood. He got up slowly from where he was and turned to see the king still on his knees. He walked over to the king, the dagger in his hand. The king looked up and saw Leo towering over him. "Do it. I know what you're going to do," said the king. Leo glared at the king and spoke, "You killed the only thing dearest to me and you almost killed the only thing your daughter ever loved. You. Are. A. Monster. And for this, you shall endure the same suffering your daughter did." With that said, Leo lifted the dagger and thrust it into the king's heart. The king collapsed the ground, his shirt stained with blood. Leo walked away from the king's corpse and walked back to Darcie's corpse. He kissed her forehead and said, "Χαλαρώστε την ειρήνη, την αγάπη μου."
