Shredded Love

Chapter 4

"Hello, anyone home?" I yell out into the hallway from the front door.

I hear her squeal "My baby" before I was being attacked with a bear hug.

I hug my mother back and say, "Hey ma, how have you been?"

She pulls back and says "Good Soph, come on lets eat, I made salad sandwiches with chicken and avocado" she takes my hand and leads me into the kitchen.

"Mum you didn't have to" I say smiling

"But I know it's your favourite dear" mum says and sits me at kitchen bench while she opens the fridge and pulls out two plates that hold the holy grail under some cling wrap.

I start getting excited, mums sandwiches are the best, she used to be a chef so anything she made was stunning.

"Thanks mum" I say with a grin as she places a plate in front of me on the counter top.

She sits opposite me and we just eat our lunch and catch up on some mother daughter time.

I spent a good few hours with my mum just laughing, talking and watching movies. When I left I promised to text her when I got home to let her know that I was okay.

So, when I parked my car in front of my house I grabbed my phone first and sent her a quick 'I'm home, no worries, love you' text and grabbed my stuff before heading into the house.

I close the door behind me and then jump out of my skin when I turn and see Kazz with her hands on her hips and one foot tapping patiently on the floor in a slow rhythm.

"Geez Kazz, you scared the shit out of me you bloody donk" I say and set my keys down on the table next to the door.

"Who was our guest yesterday Soph?" she says ignoring my insult and cutting straight to the point.

"His name is JD" I said, "I invited him in for dinner when he helped me out at the store"

"Helped you out? Like carrying your groceries?" she asked

"Well yes and no" I say as I walk to the fridge and grab the juice out.

I shake the bottle at her and she says, "No thanks I just had tea, what do you mean yes and no?"

"I mean yes he carried my groceries and no because that's not all he did" I say pouring the juice into a medium glass and putting the bottle back in the fridge making sure to close it properly.

"Okay" she says cautiously "What else did he do?"

I sit down at the bench and sip my juice as I look up at her still standing with her hands on her hips "You might want to take a seat"

She looked at me mortified "Oh my god, what happened, did you die? What you can't have your still here, did som..."

I cut her off "Kazz calm down, just sit and I'll explain everything"

"Okay" she says calming down and sitting opposite me.

"So, I finished work and decided to go to Coles to get some stuff like, soup and bread" I say and she nods

"I went and got the bread first and went to get the milk, I grabbed the milk and turned around and then I ran into something, at first I thought it was a wall but then my mind was like that's not right" I say but change my voice into a deep one at the end, which makes me giggle at myself.

Kazz takes a breath as if to say something but I cut her off again "I looked up and saw this stranger, he asked if I could show him around and me being me I told him that that's what the workers were for" I take a breath and Kazz smiles at what I said.
