Vanessa's POV
I smiled in pleasure and sneaked further into the warm blankets. Never, ever, had a motel bed been this warm. I almost laughed because I still smelled Dean. Arms tightened around me, pulling me. "Deanna, Dean, Mommy's trying to sleep..." I moaned, still squeezing my eyes shut. I tried shoving them off, and got a grunt in return.
"What the hell?" I heard a deep, tired voice say. I slowly opened my eyes, looking at the crappy motel nightstand by the bedside. "Sorry.." I mummbled, tucking an arm under the pillow. "I thought you were someone else." I felt Dean sit straight up behind me. "Who else would be sleeping with you?!"
Sam's POV
I sighed when I heard the tone for me to leave a message. "Hey, uh, Andy.. It's just me. Call me when you get this. Bye," I said quickly. I threw my phone on the table, irritated. "You sure about this?" I turned to Dean, who was writing a note. He hesitated for a moment, then answered.
"Yeah," he said, never looking up. "We have to." I crossed my arms as he finished off the letter. I took a few steps around him and tried to peep over his shoulder. I squinted as I read the crude handwriting. Dean shot me a disgusted look and slammed the piece of paper face down on the table.
"Time to go," he said quietly, his voice robotic with no emotion. I nodded slowly, trying to wrap my head around the sticky situation. "I'll get my stuff."
Vanessa's POV
"Dean!" I called down the hall, only to recieve silence. "Sam?" I hollered a bit lower, more timid. "Hulloooo?" I looked in Dean's room, which was empty. I frowned at the messy, unmade bed. Other than the bed, the floor was clear of anything, the dresser empty and no guns or booze.
I let out a nervous laugh and slowly made my way to what had been Sam's room just 8 hours ago. "Sam?" I whispered, looking for any sign of the boys. Unlike Dean's bed, Sam had made the bed perfectly, army-style. I bit my lip and thought for a moment.
Running to the kitchen, I searched for anything that would tell me why they were gone. "They're just getting breakfast," I mumbled, but I couldn't fool myself. My eyes stopped on a wrinkled piece of paper on the table. I inched towards it, trying to swallow the lump in my throat.
I lifted it up and started reading.
'Vanessa,
We have left for Washington. This is too dangerous for you to do any longer, and I won't allow you to come with us.'
I stopped reading for a moment and picked up a credit card I suspected Dean also left for me. "Go figuire," I whimpered quietly.
'I'm sorry if I led you on, but you need to know. Don't follow us. I don't want you to come. Our fun is over now. When we find your kids Sam will bring them to you.
Goodbye.
~Dean'
I placed the note down gently, my whole body numb. I had told myself a million times that I wouldn't fall under his charm. That I wouldn't get heart broken again. So I was going to keep that promise to myself, the last thing of sanity I had left.
I shoved the credit card in my pocket, wiping all of my emotion from my face. If Dean was going to run again, he could run as much as he wanted. I don't care any more.
I smoothed down my shirt and squared my shoulders. I nearly jumped out of my socks when a phone rang. My eyes widened at the sight of Sam's phone on the couch, which was vibrating violently. I made my way across the room and grabbed it. I looked at the lit up screen and answered it.
"Hello?" I sat down on the old couch. "Hey, Sam, I just got your message. I've been wanting to call you for a while now, but I've been really busy... Wait. You're not Sam." I furrowed my eyebrows, still not talking. The voice on the other line sucked in a breath.
"I'm soo sorry for whatever Dean did to you, and I hope he paid you. But I really need to talk to Sam right now. I'm Andy." Andy... Andy! "Hi Andy, I'm Vanessa. Sam and Dean are getting breakfast right now, I'll tell them to call you back." The lie rolled off my toungue and past my lips before I even knew what I had said.
"Oh. Okay.." I heard her disappointed voice. "Hey, don't worry. I promise I'll get the phone to them, alright?" I smirked, realizing that I had a mission now. Guess I'm going to Washington, too. "I just miss them I guess," she laughed. There was a brief pause.
"Why are you with them?" She asked me at last. I froze for a moment. "Um, I actually have to go now," I said tensly, my mouth dry. "Oh, right. Bye." Andy hung up and I buried my head in my hands.
What was I going to do? Sam and Dean were gone, and I couldn't possibly get to Washington safely with all these demons on my trail! It was hopeless.. Too many things, bad things, had seen me. Had memorized my face as the chick who tried to kill them.
But if Andy wanted to talk to Dean and Sam, she's talk to Dean and Sam. I keep to my word, and that's what I'd given her. Sure, I didn't know her.. But she was their family, and that was all I needed to know. Family is everything.
Dean's POV
"Sam, wake up. It's your turn to drive." I shoved Sam and he jumped. "Okay, okay. Pull over here," he grumbled, annoyed. I looked over at him. He was slouched on the window with his eyes half closed. I sighed and pulled over as he had instructed.
I opened the door, sparing him another glance. Stepping out of the car and onto the crappy pavement, I walked swiftly around the Impala and to the passanger door. I knocked three times and shouted, "Wake up, sleeping beauty."
Sam jumped again and glared at me. "Fine," he snapped, "I'm coming." I stepped back and waited for him to get out. When he did- very slowly- I hopped in and almost instantly fell asleep.
Vanessa's POV
I stepped out of the taxi and smiled shyly at the driver, who was in his late twenties, early thirties. He had curly black hair and icy blue eyes. "Here, thanks." I tried handing him a twenty dollar bill, but he handed it back. "On the house," he winked at me, and I gingerly returned the bill into my wallet.
"Um.. Thanks," I slightly waved and he grinned. "Good luck," he shouted as he drove off. I blew a small dandelion seed away from my face. Why was everyone so nice? I wondered as I made my way into a small hunting store.
I was immediatly greeted by the cool air of an air conditioner. "Hello ma'am," a man at the cash register nodded. I politley tipped my head in his direction and walked through aisles and aisles of guns, knives, and basically every weapon you could imagine.
"Wow," I murmered and took a large knife, about the size of my elbow to my wrist, down from the wall. I said that same word several times as I picked out various guns and knives. I silently thanked Dean for leaving me his fake credit card.
"Yes, this is all." I handed my things over to the nice man who had greeted me when I walked into the store. He seemed kind and worn, he had smile lines at his wise grey eyes and white hair. He looked up at me. "Do you have a hunting lisence?" He asked me, crossing his arms.
I averted my eyes and pretended to look through my small but trusty purse. "Damn," I laughed, looking back up. "I forgot it," He shrugged it off. "I'll make an excpetion this time, but not the next." He waggled a disapproving finger at me. "Yes sir, thank you." He smiled softly at me, and I had the feeling he was a grandfather.
"You remind me of my daughter," He said at last. "I'm sure she's very beautiful, sir," I replied as he handed me my things in a bag. "She went missing when she was 7," he looked away from me. I blushed. "I-I'm so sorry.." I stammered. He waved a dissmissing hand. "You've got your own kids to worry about."
I raised my eyebrows. "Excuse me?" He looked me in the eye. "You are that woman Vanessa Martz, aren't you?" He said knowingly, not really asking. "Yeah," I said quietly. "Well then, off you go. Goodluck," I crossed the room and opened the door. I stopped with it wide open and looked back. "I'll find your daughter."
