Once upon a time in the busy streets of New York, two handsome young princes lived in simple homes. Both so benevolent and generous. When an unlikely threat came unto their kingdom, they took a stand heading into the front lines. The first prince went on taking the enemy head on. The second, though rather ill, was transformed by an alchemist joining the first prince. Upon the reunion of the princes, the first prince fell; leading the second prince to sacrifice himself for not only their kingdom, but all the kingdoms.
The first prince however, became selfish and unkind only wishing for men to brawl. One evening as he recovered from his fall an elderly man walked into his new palace seeking shelter from the storm. The only gift he had, his dagger. Repulsed by the old man he turned him away, but he was warned not to be deceived by appearances, for a wolf may be lying among sheep.
The old man's outward appearance melted away, revealing a vengeful sorcerer. The prince begged for forgiveness but it was too late, for he had seen there was no love in his heart. As punishment he transformed the prince into a hideous beast. As days turned to years, the prince was forgotten by the world, for the sorcerer had erased all memory of him. The dagger he offered was truly enchanted; if the prince could love another and earn their love in return by the time the dagger completely rusted, the spell would be broken. If not then he would remain a beast for the rest of his life.
As years past he fell into despair, for who could love a beast?
