Karasuno's boys' volleyball team was lined up on the court line. The girl before them stopped talking and none of them spoke, and silence settled over the gym. They all stared in disbelief and she simply stared back.
Kageyama couldn't believe his eyes. Or his ears, for that matter. First, a girl practicing with the boys' team? And a girl that was just as tall as he was? And a girl who could play any position?
What is she, a mutant?!
Beside him, Hinata and Nishinoya's eyes were bulging out their heads. They were already surrounded by boys who were taller, even Shimizu was taller than the both of them, but how they take this? Was Hinata's hand shaking?
One thing was for sure, Takai was big, by anyone's standards. She was tall, and leanly built, like Tsukishima. With a pair of headphones around her neck and adorned in a black hoodie and sweatpants, if Kageyama passed her on the street, he wouldn't even think twice about her. If he happened to look up at her, he still might think she was a boy.
On second thought, no he wouldn't. She had short curly brown hair, pulled back away from her face with a black headband, a slightly darker complexion like Asahi, and dark brown eyes.
Really pretty brown eyes.
Yeah, he would definitely know she was a girl. Right?
Daichi came up from behind the two shorter boys and smacked their heads together. Their heads colliding made a dull thump sound and both boys cried out in protest. "Well, introduce yourselves. She's not an alien."
"I'm Hinata Shoyo!" The little ginger piped up, rubbing his head where Daichi had hit him.
"Nishinoya Yuu," the libero said, throwing in a wink as he rubbed his own head.
"Yamaguchi Tadashi."
"Tanaka Ryunnosuke."
"Tsukishima Kei."
Out of everyone, the only ones who didn't say their names were the third-years. Well, specifically, Suga, Asahi, and Daichi.
She must have talked to them already. So that means...Daichi definitely has a plan. Lost in thought, Kageyama didn't realize it had gotten quiet until it was too late. His eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to speak, but no sound came out of it.
Crap.
Everyone was looking at him. Daichi, Hinata, Takai, everyone. He closed his mouth and opened it again a few times. It seemed like everyone was leaning closer towards him. He couldn't figure out what to say.
So he closed his mouth and kept it closed.
"Ohhhhhhhhhh!" All the boys started yelling at the same time. "Kageyama likes a girl! Kageyama likes a girl!"
"W-WHAT?!" Kageyama roared, balling his fists. "How can you decide that after, like, two seconds?"
Hinata leaned closer, a stupid grin on his face. "What's the matter, Bakayama? Never seen a pretty girl before? You know we have one as our manager, right?" The smaller boy stage-whispered.
"You shut up," Kageyama hissed back.
"After you introduce yourself, dummy!"
"Um, I-I'm Kageyama Tobio," he managed. He couldn't bring himself to look at her. He'd embarrassed himself enough already. But his eyes still slid back to her, against his will.
She was looking straight at him, but her expression hadn't changed even a little. She meet his gaze and gave him a small smile. "Nice to meet you all."
