30th march.

mark's p.o.v.

seán was over at our dorm again - it had been a constant routine. we'd go to school, he'd come over, stay the night, then sneak out when amy came home. which, rarely ever happened.

i didn't think about her anymore, i just spent time with seán as much as i could. of course, i could tell he didn't really like being here because of amy - but his dorm wasn't really an option. he said he'd gotten thrown out for causing trouble - but he was working on it - so he just stayed with some friends as much as he could.

many people thought we were dating, since we were all over each other. but both of us are straight - and we're just great friends. besides, i still love amy.

speaking about her, she came home early today, surprising both seán and i. he quickly stood up from the couch, looking at me as to silently wish me a goodbye, and headed out of the door without looking at amy at all.

"why was he here?"

i rolled my eyes, "is there a rule for not having any friends over? also, what brings you home this early?"

"friend? you're friends with that- that asshole? who insulted you and i both?"

i sighed, "look, people change. leave him alone. he's trying his best to be a better person."

"whatever. what did you mean by "home this early"?"

"what else could it mean, amy? you're never here, unless you want something or you're with one of your boy toys."

she scoffed, "you're calling me a slut too now?"

i frowned, "where did i mention the word slut in that sentence?"

"that's the meaning of the sentence!"

i rolled my eyes, shaking my head. "shut up. i'm going to go hang out with seán."

she looked at me with disgust, "yeah, go be friends with that piece of shit-"

i slammed the door shut on her. and this was the person i was in love with?

i had to get over her. in one way or another.

as i neared the exit, where i texted seán to meet me, i saw him outside, smoking a cigarette.

"can you give me one too?"

he frowned, "since when do you smoke, dude?" but he still gave me one. he also gave me his lighter.

"i tried it once or twice before - i just need to get my mind off things." i lit up the cigarette, breathing in. then i exhaled, blowing the smoke out.

"expert already? huh." seán grinned, nudging me.

"amy thinks we're fucking."

he coughed, almost choking on the smoke. "what? who told her that?"

"that sounds like we actually did." i laughed, once again inhaling and exhaling the smoke.

"we didn't but.. do people really believe we're fucking? i mean, come on dude."

i shrugged, "you know how people are. judgemental. homophobic. annoying. rumors spread faster than you can blink anymore."

"i know, mark, but this is sad. amy loves you, dude. i swear she does. she told me herself. that's why we broke up."

i pursed my lips. "you told me. but she doesn't act like it, at all. keeps bringing guys back home, ignoring me, kicking me out so she can have a nice date with them.. it's so tiring. maybe i should move-"

seán shoved me against the wall of the building, hard. "shut the fuck up before i snap your neck. you can not give up this fast. she loves you. she does. go get your girl, man. i know you're shy and scared but god, do you not see how she's slipping out of your fingers?"

i stayed silent.

"every fucking girl stares at you like you're meat and they've been starving animals for thirty years. you're so oblivious."

he shoved me against the wall one more time, shaking his head. "see you tomorrow, and if you and her haven't so much as talked at all i'm gonna beat your ass!" he made kissing sounds, then ran off. where to, i had no idea. probably the lake by our school.

i nodded to myself, he was right. i had to talk to amy.
