Peace

It had been 10 days since they put their relationship on pause.

Hyungwon tried to distract himself by focusing on his studies. College wasn't easy, to begin with. He got about 10 calls from Hoseok a day and it was getting increasingly difficult to ignore them.

He picked his phone and quickly sent a text to Hoseok.

"Sorry that I was unable to answer your calls. I've been really busy with school."

Hyungwon sighed as he pressed 'send'. I hope he's doing fine by himself.

2 streets away, Hoseok had just gotten home from work. He felt his phone vibrate. Pulling it out of his back pocket, he was surprised to see a text from Hyungwon.

He opened the message and read it slowly.

"No worries. All the best with school work 😊"

He hit the send button and slipped his phone back into his pocket.

A few minutes later he took his phone out and checked his notifications. He wasn't expecting anything, but it hurt him quite a bit when he didn't see a reply from Hyungwon.

What he didn't know was at the very same second, Hyungwon was lying in bed, looking at his reply. He's unusually cheerful. I wonder if something good happened to him today.

Hyungwon smiled faintly. He tapped on Hoseok's profile picture and gazed at it. Unlike him, Hoseok hadn't changed his profile picture.

He felt a bit guilty.

He ignored the growing lump of guilt at the pit of his stomach. He didn't want to do this either, but he had no choice.

Pretending as if nothing had happened was just going to hurt him even further. He just needed the time and space to think through things.

Maybe things would get better over time.

He pulled up the blanket to his chin and hugged his knees tightly. The next 2 years would be the most painful two years he'd have to endure.
