"Hi, I'm Siren. I just moved here to live with my dad and sister. Um, I hate eating fish, and I like green and blue." I say and sit down at my desk. New school. New life. New town. New house. New people, well minus my sister and dad. I have just moved here and am already starting school. I have never done well in school. Especially math, which is what I have now. Ugh.
"Thank you, Siren." Said my teacher, Ms.Kelly. I nod and open my book to page three hundred and ninety-four. I chuckle a little because, in this book series I read, a professor said that.
"Anything funny Siren?" She asked.
"Actually yeah," I said chuckling again. "You said to turn to page three hundred and ninety-four, and that was in a book I read," I said starting to laugh, making the while room erupt into fits of giggles or laughter.
"Okay class settle down." She said with a trace of a smile. At least she's not like my old teacher, Mr. Kowalski. He was just a jerk. He was old school and believed in using a stick to punish you, it was legal back in my old town. We proceeded in opening our books to page three hundred and ninety-four, (Insert giggle here) and she started talking about equations and stuff, which doesn't happen to be my forte. She started talking about variables on both sides and stuff, and that's where I spaced out. I was swimming in the ocean and was looking for something. I saw a glint of gold, silver, and green. I swam down and tried to grab it but my hand went straight through it. "Siren. Siren!" It yelled at me. "Siren! Are you listening to me?" That's when I realized everyone was staring at me and I was on the floor. I stood straight up. Now, with my cheeks being a scarlet color, I sat back down at my desk, embarrassed out of my mind. "Hun, are you okay?" She asked.
"Yeah, sorry I spaced out," I said.
"Please try not to again." She said, smiling slightly.
"I'll try," I say. Boy is this year gonna be a good one. The bell rings shortly afterward and I jump up out of my seat ready for my next class. Science. I walk down the hallway toward the science classroom. Kids are bumping each other and trying to get to their destination first. There is a stairwell for the classes on the first floor, and it leads to a separate place. It hides students from view when you are walking. All of a sudden, a tall kid with brown hair and stunning green eyes, hurtles toward the science room, knocking me over in the process.
"Oh gosh. Are you okay?" He asks.
"Yeah." I say, brushing off some dust on my skirt. "I'm fine." I say.
"What's your name?" He asks.
"Siren." I murmur.
"Cool."
"What's your name?" I contemplate.
"Evian."
"Nice name." I compliment him.
"Thanks. My mom picked it."
"I don't have a mom." I say frowning.
"Oh, I'm sorry Siren." He says.
"No, its fine. I've never met her." I say, sorrowfully.
"Oh."
"Well, we should get to class, before the bell rings." I say.
"Yeah." He says. We start walking and arrive at our class just as the bell rang.
"Okay, class today we'll be in the lab today. We will be learning about metamorphosis and change." She says. Her name is Ms. Jeliani. She's about 42 or 43. She seems like a good person too. I set my stuff down and walk with the rest of the class into the lab room. On the tables were jars filled with goop that preserved the stages of the life cycle of a frog."Good morning class!" She said enthusiastically.
"Morning Mrs. Jeliani." The class echoed, well minus me, I didn't know we had too of course.
"Today we have a new student joining us. Siren, would you like to tell us something about yourself?" She asks politely. Here we go again.
"Sure. Well, my name is Siren. I just moved here, and I hate fish." I say shortening it from what I did last time. Evian smiles from across me and I smile back. All these girls around me swoon when he smiles. Oh no it just going to be another cliche school where he is the jock and all the girls like him.
"Thank you, Ms. Phoenix. Now to begin our lesson. Can anyone tell me what metamorphosis is?" Evian shot his hand in the air. "Yes, Evian?"
"Metamorphosis, a Dramatic change in the form and often the habits of an animal during its development after birth or hatching. The transformation of a maggot into an adult fly and of a tadpole into an adult frog are examples of metamorphosis. The young of such animals are called larvae." He says as if looking straight out of a textbook. Only he's not. Guess I was wrong about him.
"Right you are Evian. Correct as always." She says proudly. I wonder how many times he raises his hand in his classes. "Now as Evian told us, oh stop drooling girls," She says harshly to a group of 5 girls at a table. They were all looking at Evian like I would look at a cupcake, and boy do I love cupcakes. When she said drooling she meant drooling. Below each of their chins were tiny puddles of drool. Ew. Close your guys' mouths before a fly gets in them. "Anyways, as Evian was telling us, metamorphosis is a change in an animal or being. The process usually takes at least 28 days and the longest it took ever recorded was 4.5 years." She said and I spaced out once again. There it was again. The scepter. Except for this time the handle part was gold and had a magenta colored gem at the bottom. At the topmost part was a blue orb and a red orb. There was green laced around the handle and silver holding it all together with brown gems dotting it. It was a beautiful sight. I reached down to grab it but again my hand passed through it, except it had a slight force holding it back. I awoke with a sudden jolt when the bell rang. "Okay class, remember your project and your partners. Remember to work outside of class as well." She said.
"What?" I ask Evian.
"We have a project and I'm your partner."OH NO.
