Chapter 2: Beginnings

I fell into the car seat as my neighbour pushed me into a taxi so that I could get to University on time, I was studying to become a Doctor.

I got out of the car, grabbed my books and quickly paid the taxi driver, I ran into school and bumped into a tall blonde girl,
"Ugh" she said upon impact and we both tumbled to the ground,
"Sorry..." I said apologetically,
"No it's my fault, I should have been looking where I was going" she said and smiled, she got up and began running towards the staff room,
I walked into class barely on time and took a seat, the professor walked in followed by the girl I had just met,
All of a sudden, the class began cheering.

I heard a person in the back row yell,
"Welcome back Jamie!" They said and she returned a smile,
"You better not start flirting with me again because I'm back, after all I am only 17." I felt myself laughing even though I was accepted into University early too, the girl who I presume is Jamie turned towards me, obviously recognizing me from the hallway, she shot me a smile, as she did I thought that she was the most beautiful person in the world, her smile was bigger and livelier than anyone I knew and when she smiled the whole room would light up.

The bell tolled signalling the end of class, I got up and went outside, my classes had finished for today, I walked outside and called for a Taxi, and opened the door, I sat inside but as I looked out the window I saw Jamie, but instead of her looking beautiful and lively she looked dark and evil, as if she was possessed or harboured a dangerous secret. It had always been a specialty of mine to be a good judge of character but I could not decide on Jamie's Character for she seemed to have different personalities at points in time.

I got out of the car and walked into my apartment, my phone began to ring, I pressed the speaker button after answering the call and then spoke - 'The Prime Authority' the superhero group in charge of saving the city, A woman spoke on the phone instructing me that 'Hollow' was active and to be careful, the call then ended and I looked at the time which read 4:00 PM which only meant two things - 

1. It was the afternoon

2. It was time to do my daily rounds

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, my body was then consumed by a full body black and blue latex suit, I then focused my thought to my regular area of round checks. As I was there I noticed the streets were empty as usual, all people in this street tended to stay late at work for extra money. I heard humming from in front of me and noticed a dark figure emerging through the afternoon fog and that's when 'Hollow' appeared in my sight, she seemed to be smirking.

"Well I'm here, where is your merry crew?" She said emphasising the second word she spoke,

"They're not coming." I said slyly,

"Oh, I see one on one." She said and began grinning, she looked at me and began to run my way, she flung her knee upwards and I reacted too slow after her knee reached my skin and pain surged through my body, I let out a pained groan but regained my composure, she came at me again, but I had taken control of a nearby dog, It began to growl behind me, I noticed she had stopped in her tracks, as if she were facing the most dangerous thing in the world, she began to back away but I would not allow her to leave happily this time, I commanded the animal to attack her and it pounced onto her arm, ripping deep into her shoulder, she screamed as it continued to consume her flesh, I stopped the animal and lifted my hand, submerging 'Hollow' in a frenzy of controlled water, I forced the water to fly her through the sky, losing track of her as she disappeared into town, assuming she had survived. I would get her next time.

I had finished my daily rounds and was only now taking out the trash, I noticed a hole in the ground but only glanced before going back towards the door, what caught my attention was small coughing and in the corner of my eye, I could see the snow turning red, I rushed to the hole and noticed 'Hollow' she seemed to have been badly injured and I could only assume that I was to blame, I noticed she had been impaled with a large icicle sticking out through her final rib, some of her bones seemed to be broken but luckily they weren't injured in critical ways, pools of dark red blood surrounded her, thankfully that meant that she had not injured any arterial systems, her skin which was visible in tears to her suit was highly pale and purple in multiple areas, her breathing was laboured to the slightest whisper, and her fingers were turning purple at the tips, I grabbed her after medically evaluating her condition and thankfully the icicle did not injure any vital organs, I carried her into my apartment and laid her on my couch.

After some time I had patched her wounds up, her shoulder looked terrible from everything else, I knew she had killed many innocent people but I was not the monster she was so I saved her, I went into my room and began my homework and assignments. I heard a large crash and walked out to find her laying on the floor in pain. She turned to look at me and I noticed that she recognised me in my civilian form, she seemed almost shocked but I did not know her identity as I stupidly had not attempted to peek under her mask.
