Part 2: Heart on my Sleeve
August 20, 2009I was waiting and waiting for the boy that I have been so not stalkingly stalking to walk out to get on the bus. We both got on the bus at the same time I was thinking because we lived right across the street from each other. I stood looking at my mailbox that I have yet to notice, weirdly it was a cow, it looked distorted and the opening was the mouth. The flag of the mailbox was a cows leg, which looked awkward when you put it up because it looked like you broke the cows leg. Weird.
Then I heard the the door across the street slam, then the very nice looking boy, the one who I had been not stalkingly stalking walked out. His hair was messy, sticking up in all sorts of places, it looked like a brown fire which didn't really make sense since fires aren't brown. He looked like he had just woke up, and he staggered across his lawn and to the end of his driveway. He ran his hands through his hair a few times attempting to fix it but it still looked messy, but a cute messy. He looked up at me and cupped his hands near his mouth so he could project his voice father, even though he was just across the road.
"Hey, uh, you should probably come over here! The bus door is on this side not yours!" He shouted, his voice sounded raspy and deep like he had also just woke up. It was weird to hear his voice like this because he didn't have a very low voice. Then I nodded and stepped a foot out onto the road only to hear the squeal of the cars wheels. I jumped to the right which practically saved me from getting nudged by the car. A squeal projected out of my mouth, and my eyes were squeezed shut. Then I felt something grab me, I opened my eyes to see Shawn tugging at my shirt.
He waved at the guy, which was in a blacked out car with tinted windows, had now rolled down his window. His eyes were dark, so dark you couldn't see his pupils, and his hair was black, along with a darker skin tone. His stare was cold, and his eyes squinted at us.
"She's sorry, she didn't mean it." Shawn said pulling me out of his way.
The guy still had a cold look on his face which sent a shiver down my spine, "Learn ta look where ya goin kid." He said in a bitter tone before slowly pulling away as we made it across the road, his eyes still glued on us. The bus had been waiting behind his car which had now pulled up to Shawn's driveway.
"Evie, sit with me okay?" He said as we boarded the bus, i just nodded and did what he told me. I sat down near him, and he put me in the window seat.
I looked around the bus full of kids I didn't know until I had noticed that Drew was in the seat across the isle from us, he gave me a faint, dirty look. Of course Shawn never saw these, I was pretty sure Drew hated me. He had been giving me a hard time since the day Shawn introduced me to him. Maybe Drew was just a mean boy, but that question was answered when a girl that had bright blonde hair sat near him. He put his arm around her and stared at her like there was no one else on the bus. She was pretty, she had a nice face structure and pretty green eyes, she had freckles that accented her face. She was kinda pale and from the convo I was eavesdropping on between them I'm pretty sure her name was Jenny. She didn't even spare a glance towards me, she was too engulfed in her phone and smacking her gum to even acknowledge anything other than her phone and maybe Drew when he bugged her.
Shawn had noticed I was looking at her and pointed over at her, whispering he told me her name, "Her name is Benedict, everyone calls her Benny." I nodded, she had a weird name for a girl, matter of fact I've never even heard the name Benedict in my life. Ive heard about it as a breakfast, like eggs benedict, but never as a name. What a stupid name, I thought to myself only in result to have Shawn quickly put his hand over my mouth.
