You Can't Forget

Back at Matt's apartment all was peaceful. Matt sat on the couch, Edd asleep next to him. Matt looked over at the sleeping man and smiled. He just looked so happy. Ringo was asleep in Matt's lap and he pet the cat lovingly. It was as if there was nothing wrong. And why would there be? Matt was happy.

"Matt?" Edd opened his eyes and yawned tiredly.

"Oh, Edd, you're awake... did I wake you? I'm sorry!"

"No Matt," Edd giggled. "You didn't wake me." He stretched and looked over at Matt smiling. He smiled back.

"Hey Matt, do you know where Tom i-" Edd then remembered that Tom had been gone for several days- nearly a week. He looked at the floor, a sudden expression of fear plastered on his face.

"No no, Edd, don't be sad! What is it?" Matt hated when this happened. Edd would suddenly get sad and Matt had no idea why. It seemed to be happening even more lately. "Is it something I did? Is it Ringo? Here, here! He's yours!" Matt picked up the cat, waking him up. He mrowed, annoyed.

"Matt- no....."

"Then what!? Please Edd, talk to me!"

"Matt, when have I never talked to you before?"

"Edd just tell me!"

"Matt- I-" He inhaled deeply and began ranting. " I know you don't remember him but Tom is a dear friend of mine. He's your friend too and I know that if you DID remember him that you would be as worried as me, but you DON'T! Your memories been getting worse and worse and I'm scared that you'll get to a point where you can't even remember who-........."

"Who you are?"

Edd looked up at Matt with tears in his eyes. He slowly nodded.

"Oh Edd-" Matt swept up Edd and held him in his lap. "How could I forget about you? I know that I sometimes forget things, but your always here to help me. And I KNOW that I could never forget you! Your funny and kind and no one understands me like you. Your my best friend no matter what and NOTHING can change that!"

Edd held onto Matt, crying into his chest. "B-but Tom-"

"Don't worry..." Matt couldn't stand when Edd was like this. He hated seeing his friend cry. It woke someone up inside of him- Someone who would unconditionally stand by Edd, making sure no harm came to him. Someone who would spend hours and hours, just making sure that he got to sleep. Someone who cared about Edd more than anything in the world- Even more than himself. "Tom will come back-"

"You said this before! He's still not back!"

Matt thought for a moment about this..... Edd was right- Tom was still gone. "I'll tell you what, if Tom isn't back by tomorrow morning then we'll look for him. We can make flyers and hand them out. Is that ok?"

"I- you remembered him again....."

"Yes I did. And you know why? Because he's important to you. And whats important to you is important to me. Were going to find him. He WILL come home."

"............Thank you Matt......."

Matt squeezed the man tightly, refusing to let go even for a moment. "Always." Edd pulled away and looked up at him and smiled softly. Matt smiled back. His heart was bursting. Edd was happy again, and Matt was why. He looked down at Edd. He never really thought of why Edd was the only one he could remember correctly. He never wondered why he was able to instantly cheer him up. He never asked questions, he just went with it. But looking down at him now..... Just the two of them..... His heart fluttered.

"Um... Matt? Are you ok?"

He just couldn't explain it. He cared for Edd, he was his best friend. But- do best friends hold each other and never want to let go? To best friend want to hold hands and never leave each others side? Do best friends want to-

"M-Matt!? What are you doing?!"

"Erm-" Matt was leaning down to Edd's face. They were an inch apart. Matt didn't even realize! His face lit up red, but he didn't really know why. "Nothing." He leaned back and tried to focus on the wall.

Edd looked up at him blushing lightly. "Were you about to.....?"

"To what?"

"Nothing................."
