The silence of the room was quickly broken with the sudden 'meow' and a white cat jumping onto my legs. He had brown spots all over and heterochromia. One eye was brown and the other was green. I reached my hand up to pet the cat. "Hi there..." I say before looking at the collar. 'Orion' was the name inscribed into the tag. "...Orion." I finish.
A chuckle from behind me makes me jump. I spin around, which causes the cat to jump up onto the back of the couch I'm sitting on. A male with platinum blonde hair is standing there, in a pale green sweatshirt and jeans. He steps forwards and I gasp at his eyes. One grey, one red... was he albino? He smiled and walked up, petting the cat.
"Pardon Orion, he likes people." He spoke, his voice was gentle and smooth. "I told him to wait for you to wake up. But you know how cats are, do whatever they want." He chuckled and picked up the creature. "I'm sure you're confused. Lord, I wish Morana would give more explanation when bringing people here..." He says shaking his head.
"She's brought more people here?" I asked. Mainly focusing on the part where he said 'people.'
"Well, you're #5 that's had the 'aura' of our energy...." He pets Orion before sitting next to me. "but I have to admit, you're the strongest..." He added on, tilting his head a little. "You can see them cant you?" He asked. "The aura's." I opened my mind to speak but had to actually think about it. I looked at him closer and could see a faint green ring around his head. How had I never noticed that before? He smiled and nodded. "You can. Then you might be the closest yet."
The door opened and Morana stepped through. "I'm heading out for a little." She said sternly before walking back out. "Keep her alive!" She called after herself. The man sighed and shook his head, muttering something under his breath. I looked him over again and tried to focus on the color that seemed to surround him. The more I focused, the bigger it seemed to become until it stuck out a couple of inches from his body.
"I'm Neo." He said suddenly. "I don't think I said that before." I shook my head. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Gwen. Gwendolyn for my full name." I say. Neo, that name sounded familiar. Where had I heard it before?
"I'm the force of life itself. Love, success, birth, you know, everything but death and bad stuff." He chuckled petting the cat once again. I nodded and pet Orion as well. He was a pretty chill cat, to be honest. His fur was as soft as a bunny, and boy did he love to purr. He meowed at me and raised his head and nuzzled his face into the underside of my chin. He and I locked eyes for a moment. His blue eyes were speckled with white, and it looked like a night sky.
"I get why he's named Orion," I say suddenly breaking the silence. "He looks like he holds the night sky in his eyes.
"Yeah, it is." He smiles and his eyes seemed to shine a little brighter. He looked at me for another moment before standing up. "Are you hungry? I totally forgot normal..." He mumbled something that I couldn't quite hear and I chuckled.
"Sure," I say with a smile. "A peanut butter and jelly sounds amazing right about now." I look at his relieved expression and his adorable smile. My stomach growled and I didn't even realize how starving I was. I stood up and followed him to the kitchen. It was fancy, like the library. Oak cabinets, granite countertop, stainless steel fridge and sink, and then the electric stove.
"Sorry for the rough awakening by the way. Morana tends to lack empathy..."He commented, pulling food from one of the cabinets, I'm assuming for Orion, before pulling out peanut butter and grape jelly. "Oh, I forgot to ask. Do you like grape jelly?" He asks holding up the bottle. I nod with a smile and walk up to the island he's working on. He quickly put out the food for Orion, before moving onto our sandwiches.
"Grape is actually my favorite," I told him, trying to make conversation. "I've loved it since I was a kid."
"Really?" He asked, looking away while he spread the peanut butter.
"Yeah. My grandma used to make jelly and jam. However, Grape and raspberry were always my favorite."
"I've never had raspberry."
"Really?"
"yeah. I'd like to try it though." He smiled down at me, even though he was only a few inches taller than me. I had to look away to stop the rushing heat I felt in my cheeks and ears. I untucked my hair to hide it and I hear Neo chuckle.
"You're adorable." He turned my head back towards him, and I couldn't stop myself from blushing. He started to lean in and my breath caught in my throat.
"You too," I said back like a fucking dork. Does he really like me like that? I closed my eyes, going with the moment, hoping I wasn't about to make a fool out of myself. I felt his finger tug my chin gently and I moved forwards, extremely hoping i wasnt reading into things too much.
