They stared at each other. Both realizing that they were a like and that neither were losing their minds.
Nozomi stood up, the girl followed, knocking over her chair. Neither of them had the will to go outside. They both knew that. The girl's eyes lit up, she had an idea. She grabbed the plastic from a soda bottle, then she grabbed a plastic bag. Cut a hole in it, put the cut plastic bottle over the hole, then she put it over her head. She started to gather all of her valuables and put them in a purse. Then she bolted out of her house, Nozomi acted quick and opened his door, just in time for her. She crashed in his house, almost knocking him over.
"Who...Who are you?" He asked, bending down to check if she had any wounds.
"I'm Mika. Who are you?"
"Nozomi."
"Do you mind if I take a bath...Just in case I caught something?" Mika's paranoia was very visible. Nozomi nodded and showed her to his bathroom.
"I'll take one as well, when you get done there's a guest bedroom just across the hall. You can get ready in there. I'll be down the hall, if you need anything, please, knock." Nozomi shut the door behind him and walked to the other bathroom.
How odd...He just let me in...Without any questions.. Mika thought stepping into the scolding bath water.
Should I trust her?...Maybe she is crazy...Nah...
Mika got out of her bath and went into the guest room. She sat on the bed and got dressed. When she got out of the room she ran into Nozomi. "...My bad.."
"You're fine...I'll boil some tea for us...Do you care if its hot?....Like, scolding."
"...That's how I drink mine."
Mika's hoodie was rather cute. It had bunny ears on it, Nozomi noticed that her gym shorts had little black bunny's face- silhouette on them. "You like bunnies?" He asked walking into the kitchen.
"Yeah...They remind me of my mom...She loved them." Mika smiled at the picture on her necklace. Mika's mother died from cancer when she was younger. Her father was a lost story. Mika was very nice despite her past, usually people who come from broken homes tend to be trouble. Nozomi's parents were alive and healthy, they were both on a business trip.
Seeing that Mika seemed to be upset when talking about her mother, Nozomi changed the subject.
"I don't have very tasty food. Just wheat germ, pomegranates, green tea, button mushrooms, and pomegranate juice." Nozomi looked thru his cabinets.
No one knew how much trouble they were in. Not even the people on the NEWS. Nozomi was extremely surprised when the anchor said that people could leave their houses, only students, workers, or people getting supplies. He smacked the counter, forgetting Mika was there. Thinking of all the dumb people made his anger boil. He looked at her, realizing that he must have scared her.
"Sorry...I can't understand people sometimes..."
"It's fine, really. My roommate is way worse, he's crazy."
"He" Nozomi asked, not caring that his judgment was very visible. Mika nodded.
Nozomi hadn't noticed before, but Mika had bruises. Not just one or two...Several. He put two and two together. An angry guy, and a nice-push over type- girl. Equals, abuse. The bruises weren't minor, some were deep purple others seemed almost green. Nozomi never understood why boys hit girls, (or vise versa) it just seemed idiotic.
"That's why you ran to my house...No hesitation..." He looked down, she did the same.
"Yeah...He scares me..." Mika's blue-grey were full of tears, even though huge ones were falling down her face. "No, no, no... Don't cry. I- I'll take care of you!" He hugged her. The way she wrapped herself around him, made it seem like they and known each other for years. "He'll be back...he'll find me.. And-"
"No. I'll sleep in the floor of your bedroom tonight, if that makes you feel better." Nozomi took Mika hugging him even harder as "yes, please,"
The two of them ate and shared their opinions about the virus, "People just need to stay indoors!" Mika shouted. She was just as upset as Nozomi about how dumb people were acting about the apacolypse. "Thanks, Nozomi, that was quite an odd meal," The way she pronouced his name made him blush. It sounded like it should have hearts around it.
No-zo-mi
Her voice would get a little high on mi.
"It's no big deal." He looked at the clock, "Gee, we should get to bed," He walked to his bedroom. He felt a tiny tug on the back of his shirt. When he turned around Mika was looking down and was on the verge of crying, with one of her hands covering her mouth. "You...Told me that you'd sleep in the floor of my room...Nozomi."
The way she says my name...So cute...She must really like me...And I did promise her...
"Right. Sorry, let's go." They walked back to 'her' room.
