Chapter One
I wish I had never gotten off that bus. Then I wouldn't be lost, scared, and possibly running for my life. Oh yeah, I'm Cassidy Bluewater, but my friends call me Cass. Anyways, I should probably explain how this all started.
It all started when I got off the bus. Of course I was in the best mood, because I had just finished my last day of 8th grade. I skipped off the bus and down the dirt road that led to my house. I lived in rural town, but my house was separate from all the the others. Back to my story.
I was really excited to get home, where my family was. Well, if I can call it a family. My parents died when I was little, so my Aunt Rita adopted me. She never married but she did adopt my cousin Mya. Together we live in a small brow house along with our maid, Gretchen. However, my aunt is a very successful business woman, and she'll be spending most of the summer out of the country. Mya is in collage and is spending the summer with some friends, an Gretchen can't work because she broke her ankle. But it's always sort of been like that.
I usually arrive home and around 3:30 and fix myself a snack, then I do homework. If Gretchen is here she'll make dinner, but on her days off I do. Then I shower and go to bed. I do get bored of this and often wonder if this is all there is to life. Apparently not, and I discovered this whole I on my way home. I've walked down this road thousands of times and I've never seen this little path running off the road, so I figured it was just a shortcut. Boy, was I wrong.
The path continued for a long time, and soon I was deep in a forest. But there wasn't a forest around my house, or anywhere near it. And I could tell something about the forest was way off. Then, deep from the shadows, a low growl sounded. I'm not the smartest person ever, but it doesn't take a genius to know that when you're lost, a growl is never a friendly thing.
So I ran.
And that's how I ended up here. Where "here" is, I'm not quite sure.
