Chapter Three-The Dark Forest

Chapter Three

I really did try to take the mermaids' advice and get to the Crystal Kingdom before night, I really did. But the forest is huge, and this path is really long, but thankfully, I stuck to it. The sun had set ten minutes ago, and I was already terrified. I was seeing shadows out of the corner of my eye, and I heard strange noises coming from the darkness around me.

Soon enough, I couldn't even see the path, and now I'm really starting to panic. A wolf howled near by, and the first thing that popped into my head was werewolves. I kept my head down, looking at the path, I refused to get scared. Easier said than done. All to soon, some loud noise scared me senseless, and my head shot up. Then what I saw didn't strik terror into my heart, instead I felt peaceful, happy, and tired.

"Who are you?" I asked the unicorn, then I realized I was speaking through my mind.

"I am Luna, I bring light into the Dark Forest for travelers. What is you name, Seer?"

"Cass."

"Well, Cass, you must be exhausted. You may sleep under my protection tonight, so nothing may hurt you."

She bent her head down and touched her horn to my forehead. I peered into the small pond near by, and saw that there was a little glowing crescent moon where she had touched.

"Thank y--" but she had already gone, so I decided to lay down, and go to sleep under Luna's protection.

I awoke and saw green light filtering through the foliage above me. So it wasn't a dream! I was so relived. I looked into the pond and saw everything was the same. My chocolate brown hair wasn't tangled, my dark blue eyes weren't tired, and my red tee-shirt and jean shorts weren't dirty, the only thing different was that Luna's mark was gone.

I brushed off my shorts and hurried to get up. There was no way I was going through the hell of last night again. Butterflies floated around me, I heard the laughter of fairies and pixies, and the occasional tree nymph waved to me from the tree tops. Everything was so light and happy, but that could all change. If the Prophecy of Darkness is real, then everything would be plunged into darkness, and a great evil would rule. Unless I put I stop to it.
