*Merida's POV*
I sat on my bed chewing my pencil. I just don't get Algebra. "2x + ky = 2 and 5x - 3y = 7? WHO DECIDED TO PUT LETTERS IN MATH!" I yell as I throw my book across the room. As you may have guessed, I have a few anger issues. "Merida! A Lady does not throw tantrums!" My Mother says, stomping into my room. "Ah, who cares!" I say angrily. "What problem do you have now?" Mum says, obviously exhausted. I really can't blame her though, my brothers are a handful. Speaking of my brothers, Hamish, Hubert, and Harris run into my room with muddy shoes. "Hamish, Hubert, Harris! Don't track mud through the house!" Mum yells, chasing them out of the room. "Ugh, I need a break." I say. I set my chewed-up pencil down and head to the backyard. I have a homemade drum kit out there, it's the only thing my Mum will let me hit at the house. I walk out and let the screen door bang behind me. I set down on a bucket and start beating out a rhythm. My brothers recognize it as the rhythm to Hero by Skillet and run out to dance along. I smile and laugh at their goofy dance moves. This was exactly what I needed.
*Hiccups POV*
Bored. Bored bored bored. Definition of Bored: Feeling weary because one is unoccupied or lacks interest in one's current activity. I already did my homework, fed Toothless, played video games, and watched some TV and I was still bored. And unlike most people, I don't eat to cure boredom. I hung upside down over the end of my bed. "Maybe I'll go to Merida's." I thought out loud. Toothless yipped in agreement. I rolled off my bed, hitting my head on my desk chair on the way down. "Ouch!" I winced in pain. Toothless started barking and trying to jump up on me. "Haha, it's ok Bud! I'm fine!" I grabbed my backpack and picked Toothless up. I don't really go anywhere without him. If I could smuggle him to school in my backpack, believe me, I would! "Dad, Im going to a friend's house!" "Ok, bye son! Be safe and all that!" Dad was busy making (and burning) A grilled cheese. "I'm taking Toothless with me, so don't worry about him climbing on the fridge again!" Toothless is...I guess active is one way to put it. He climbs on everything and makes a mess of more than everything! I opened up the garage and stuck my backpack in the basket of my bike. "Well, time to go Bud!" Toothless yipped in excitement and licked my face as I was putting him in the basket on my backpack. Toothless loves bike rides. He always jumps out of the basket before I can get to him. It's like he's born to fly! "Here we go Bud. It should only be about five minutes to Merida's house."
*Five Minutes Later*
When I pulled into the driveway, I heard a weird sound. It kinda sounded like...rhythmic tapping on buckets? It was coming from the backyard. "What do you say we go investigate?" I asked Toothless. He barked an excited response. I walked around the house and peeked over the gate to see Merida drumming what sounded like the beat to 'Sugar, We're Going Down Swingin' and her little brothers dancing along. I had to stifle a laugh at their dancing. I'm sorry, but you would too if you saw six year old triplets whip and nay naying! I opened up the gate, but Merida didn't even seem to notice. I walked up to her "drum kit" and chuckled a bit when she looked up and without missing a beat stuck her tongue out and went cross-eyed. "I see you're in an emo phase! Fall-Out Boy, wonderful choice!" I teased when she finished. "Yeah, but if you're waiting for me to break out the black eyeliner, don't hold your breath!" Merida teased back. "So, I didn't know you could play the drums!" I gestured to her "drum kit". "Yeah, it's just a little hobby of mine. Mum refused to get me a real drum kit because 'There are so many more instruments that actually have taste!'. I'm just happy she let me set this up out here." Merida chuckled. "Do you play anything?" She asked. "Well, I play a little keyboard. Obviously the most manly instrument." I say flaunting my "muscles". Merida laughed."Yeah, figures you would play the nerdiest instrument." I pretended to be hurt. "I can't believe you would say such a thing! The keyboard is the mightiest instrument of them all!" Merida scoffed. "Yeah right!" She looked down at her "drums" and stood up. "I guess I should get back to tearing my hair out over Algebra." "Algebra? That's pretty easy once you get it." "Well I don't get it, ok Hiccup?" She said sharply. I jumped a little. Algebra is pretty easy for me, but I guess I just forget that some people have trouble understanding it. "I could tutor you on it if you want." Her face lit up. "Really? Thank you so much Hiccup!" She jumped on me and gave me a huge hug. "Ribs...breaking!" "Oh, sorry." She apologized, but the smile stayed on her face. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get started!" As she ran into her house I smiled. It feels good to see her so happy.
