This will contain many POVS to introduce some characters, enjoy! :)

------------------------------------

Mitch

"Delanie," I muffle into my pillow.

"Yes?"

"Promise me you'll be careful, wherever you go." I glance at Delanie's face, and she nods. Our fingers interlock, and I give it a quick squeeze for reassurance.

"You will too," Delanie recognizes my answer.

"Delanie!" Cheyenne calls from outside the hut. Delanie sighs, and gets dressed. Before she walks out the door, she smiles at me.

...

Preston

I watch as Delanie approaches me, ready to run. (A/N: Delanie and Preston are like bffs lmfao)

"Where's Mitch?" I ask.

"He'll be out soon," she replies. I give a crooked grin, as Dodger comes to my side. She kisses my cheek softly.

"Good morning, handsome," she says.

"Good morning, stunning," I return.

"Shut up, lovebirds!" Delanie jokes. Mitch joins us. They hold hands, like Dodger and I do, and stare into each other's eyes. What I call the lover's gaze.

"Who're the lovebirds now?" I half snort, half coo. Delanie blushes, and turns to face us again. Mitch smirks.

"Didn't someone say Cheyenne was joining us with Lachlan?" Dodger reminds.

"They should be here soon," Mitch confirms.

...

Cheyenne

As soon as I enter the group of good friends, I am nudged by Delanie.

"Where's Lachlan?" she teases.

"He's coming," I answer seriously, trying to keep my composure.

"Can't wait to see that blush on your face when he arrives," Delanie whispers, so only I can hear. It's true. I love Lachlan, he just doesn't know that, yet.

...

Delanie

"Let's go!" I announce in a raised voice, impatient. There has been enough chatting for now. I am returned with nods of agreement.

"Follow me!" I wave my arm forward, then begin to sprint. Mitch runs steadily by my side. We race through the spiraling trees, and over the colored leaves. Wind rushes at my face, with great strength. We all turn, looking one way, then the other, as we run.

Running is the job where only the most athletic, experienced people race out, to scale and observe the borders. Unless invited to come along, you are banned from going.

We near the final edge of our territory, Mitch's and my pace never wavering. Running is one of our favorite things to do. After we reach the beginning of the village, our pace slows.

...

Jay

I hear paced footsteps outside the village, and take Noah's hand. We head over to greet the Runners. Delanie and Mitch grin at us, and we start a deep conversation about what's been going on.  Emmy races up to us, dragging Brandon along by the arm. His expression of irritation, priceless.

"How was it? Anything new?" Emmy asks with anticipation.

"Not much today, Runner Emmy," Delanie reports, with a salute. Emmy has always wanted to be a Runner, waiting patiently for the day when she reaches 15. Brandon rolls his eyes, and begins to walk away. Emmy calls after him.

"Brandon! Wait! Don't you want to hear about the Run?"

"No, I'm good!" he answers, reaching the other side of camp. Emmy appears disappointed, as she heads back towards Brandon. She sits on a rock with him, and they begin to talk about stuff. Brandon nods occasionally, and scratches his arm carelessly at one point. Cute young lovers, I chuckle to myself. Maybe Brandon doesn't realize this, but Emmy has a huge crush on him. Someday... I think, pushing myself to my toes, to kiss Noah.

...

Skylar

I watch as Delanie splits apart from Mitch, to get some alone time. Rhiannon, being the annoying ass she is, takes this chance to continue her bullying rampage. Delanie seems clearly too exhausted from today, to counter Rhiannon's harsh words. I take this into my hands, and march towards them.

"Rhiannon! Leave Delanie alone, she's the one who risks the dangers of the unknown, where what is going come, could happen at any moment! She runs for all of us, just take a break and stop being a bitch to her," I rant, taking a deep breath afterwards. Rhiannon takes the hint, and leaves with a glare. Why does Delanie put up with the bullying? Why doesn't Mitch or Preston stop it? Because Delanie says she wants to be the one to end it. I shake my head, and sit down, across from Delanie. A peaceful silence sweeps over the village.

...

Carly

I wander to the edge of the forest, to get away from everything for a while. Carly. Fear erupts inside of me.

"Who are you?" I take a wide step back. Carly, come into the woods. Meet me at the center, and be safe from what's to come. The voice bribes.

"N-no!" I shout back at the voice. Carly, come to me, or I'll bring you myself.

"I wont go to you." The decision was yours. A shadow creeps out from the forest, surrounding me. It somehow grabs me, and swiftly pulls me into the depths of the forest.

"Help!" I scream at the top of my lungs. The last thing I see is a vicious looking creature rise from it's shadow on the ground, to an obviously real figure. I warned you, Carly. The voice growls.

...

Delanie

I am cuddling with Mitch by the warm campfire, when I hear an earsplitting scream. Carly? I shoot up from Mitch's lap, and jog to the weapon hut. I grab my iron sword, and my steel shield. I begin to sprint towards the noise. Mitch follows close behind.

"Whatever happened to Carly, we'd better get there soon," Mitch murmurs.

"I think we may already be too late," I say, concerned.
