Tyler

"We wait. For the shadows to find us." I say, with an idea in mind. Mitch sends me a quizzical glance. April  raises an eyebrow. Preston stays still, contemplating the situation. Lachlan folds his arms, seemingly patient. His head tilts to the side, slightly.

"My plan?" I murmur in a whispered tone, my voice rising with almost every word. "The shadows will find us sooner or later-most likely sooner. What do we do? We wait for them, but only I will be... out in the open. I want to try and just talk this out," I finish, realizing how ridiculous it sounded, after saying it.

"You sure that's a good idea?" Preston gently strokes his chin, in deep thought. "Where would we be?" I meet his dark brown eyes, setting a hard gaze.

"In the trees, behind large boulders... anywhere-but nearby, you never know..."

"something may go wrong," ends Jay. Cheyenne appears close behind Delanie, her innocent eyes widened from the risky idea.

"What if we can't save you in time?" Lachlan questions. Aleks lowers his eyes to the leave-strewn floor-probably imagining the death of me.

"I'll be fine," I attempt to reassure. What a great use of breath that was, Tyler. I mentally roll my eyes. Delanie places a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"We can't lose you, too..." her light voice trails off, and she averts her eyes from my irritated gaze.

"Carly isn't lost to us," I say, in such a reassuring way that I believe it more than ever, now.

"You're sure you wanna carry through with this?" Mitch asks. He wraps an arm around Delanie's waist, and pulls her into him. Her fingertips find his arms-aware of my nostalgic, saddened, gaze-and pulls his arms from her, stepping to his side, and instead linking fingers. She gives me an apologetic look, and I return it with one of my own.

"You guys shouldn't have to be here with me. After all, you may just return injured, whether it's emotionally, or physically," I mutter, silently cursing to myself for letting this many people come with me.

"Don't say that," Chyenne speaks up. "We decided to come here, it was our own choice. None of this is and will be your fault."

"Fine, whatever. All I care about is finding Carly, and brining her back home safely. We can talk more in-depth about the plans around the cooking fire. C'mon," I interrupt the anxious, depressed mood between us all.

Carly

"What do you want with me?" I growl. I feel a grin in my mind.

I want to use you to hurt your loved ones. Your precious boyfriend, beloved friends... everyone. You will be the trigger to The End. And when you-the trigger-are pulled, the bullet will shoot out with a splintering crack, and create unfixable chaos.

"Why? Why do something like this? What could you possibly get out of this? Did someone do something to you, that gave you this... this appetite for revenge?" I spit, disgusted.

That is none of your mundane business.

"You have been hurt some way or another, then!" I conclude, with a triumphant smirk.

Wipe that horrid smile off your ugly face! The monster roars in my head.

"Nobody said smiling wasn't allowed," I counter.

Quiet! It demands, and I feel like it's smashing its scally hands against its large ears.

"Watch for the claws! Wouldn't want to scratch that handsome face," I taunt, gaining confidence quick.

Watch your tone, young Carly. The monster warns.

"And if I speak my mind?"

You will be punished.

"For speaking my mind! Wow, you really are 'cruel'," I chuckle at my small joke.

Silence! For the hate of Satan! You're the most annoying mortal I've ever spoken to!

"Then I've done something productive, other than laying on a forest floor," I grin, sarcastically proud.

One day... One day you'll wish you didn't say these things, Carly.

"That won't be for some time, I can tell."

You humans always think you know everything.

"Maybe we do."

You know you don't.

"And you have a problem with that?" I raise an eyebrow for effect.

Just you wait and see how much of a problem I have with that... The monster's voice seems to fade, as if it's walking away.

"Where are you going?" I call out.

To find your little 'search party'. The voice is barely audible, now.

"You won't find them!" I shout out, worried.

I already have.
