"Hannah, I swear to God, I can't believe I'm letting you go off to college like this. I told you to clean your room yesterday, and look, there are still bags on the floor. If you can't pick up your room, how do you expect me to think you're ready for college?" My mom nagged at me.
"Mom, those are my suitcases." I rolled my eyes and grabbed the bags to put them in the car.
My dad and my sister were already waiting for me in the car. My dad came around to help me fit the rest of my bags in the car. I smiled to thank him.
My dad was the only on that actually didn't seem to care that I was off to college. My sister couldn't stand the fact that I was leaving. She was upset because now she's alone with our mom. Our mom wasn't so bad, she was just a control freak.
Now all that doesn't matter, I'm heading off to college and I finally get to have a taste of freedom.
"Come on, let's go. You need to be there early to sign up and meet the head of the sorority." My mom reminded me.
We all pile up in the car. I took one last look at my house, and I've never been so excited yet nervous to leave. I was so ready to start college at University of San Diego.
The car ride was uncomfortable and awkward. No one tried to talk or turn on the radio. All that I was able to do was let my nerves take over. What if I don't get accepted into the sorority? I'm not worried about good grades because I have never been concerned about them, so why start now?
I stared at myself in the review mirror, studying my facial features. My pale white skin had little freckles airbrushed across it, my dark auburn hair went a little past my shoulders, but I debated cutting it every single day. I was just too scared. My hazel eyes had a line of dark eyeliner around them and a coat of mascara.
We finally reached the main building, and my nerves have now reached their highest peak. I feel like I could spew any minute now.
"Hannah, I expect you to get good grades and behave here. If you get in any sort of trouble, remember I can still ground you." My mom threatened me, but by now I was the least bit intimidated by her threats.
I hugged them all good bye and exchanged "I love you's" with them.
As I walked away from my family, I felt free. I looked around the campus, and I was shocked on how many people were here.
Across the courtyard, I spotted a table that was flooded with girls. I assumed it was the sign up table for Tri Delta, the sorority I wanted to join.
The first thing I noticed when I arrived at the booth, was the preppiest girl I have ever seen. She was wearing short, blue and white striped shorts with a Ralph Lauren polo. She also had a cream cashmere sweater draped around her shoulders. She had glistening blonde hair, with the brightest of blue eyes.
"Hi, I'm Mary Watson! I'm head of Tri Delta." She smiled and offered out her hand for me to shake.
"I'm Hannah Hayes, it's nice to meet you." I smiled and returned her hand gesture.
"Are you here to sign up? You look like a perfect fit for us!"
"Yes, I am. Do I just sign up here?" I pointed down to the sheets of paper. She nodded and smiled.
I took a peak out of all the girls who want to join. There must be at least forty girls. I heard they only let fifteen pledges in, since there are five girls returning.
"You have quite the competition this year." Mary noticed me staring down at all the names.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, during rush week, we have huge parties and other activities, and during those times you're supposed to prove if you're worth enough to be in my sorority." She explained.
"What do we have to do?" Another girl chimed in.
She had long, dark chestnut hair that draped along her back. Her honey colored eyes shimmered in the light. She, like all the other girls here, was beautiful.
"You'll just have to wait and see, darling." Mary smirked at the both of us and walked away.
"She seems like a pleasant person to be around." The girl joked.
"She just oozes preppy." I laughed with the girl.
"I'm Bryn Gamble, by the way." She told me.
"Hannah Hayes." I introduced myself.
We look over to where Mary now was. She was standing on a pedestal and was now accompanied by an Ethiopian beauty, you could obviously tell she was Ethiopian by her bone structure. Mary picked up a microphone and told all the girls to gather around her.
"Let's go." Bryn grabbed my hand and led me over to where we were supposed to be.
"Hello girls. I, as most of you know, am Mary Watson. I am the head of this sorority. Since you have all signed up, rush week will now begin. This is Miraf Gesit." Mary points to the girl next to her.
"Hello my little pledges." Miraf smirked. "You all will be staying in the house with us for rush week. You all will now go down and get ready for your very first frat party tonight."
"Are you ready to take on the Sigma Nu's?"
"Wait what?" Bryn and I said at the same exact time.
