Simple Simon met a pie man,
Going to the fair,
Said Simple Simon to the pie man
"Let me taste your ware"
Said the pie man to Simple Simon
"Show me first your penny"
Said Simple Simon to the pie man
"SirI have not any"

It was Connie's big day, her first day at pre school, she was so excited and skipped all the way there, I missed her so much, it was a funny feeling, but I missed her more than when she was on play dates, maybe because I knew she would soon be at nursery, and I would have to get used to it, I also worried that maybe Henry would decide he no longer needed me, what would I do then?

So as a special treat, both for her after her big day and for me as a pick me up I thought it would be fun to visit a county fair. Provided we still could that is.

I picked Connie up,  she had enjoyed her first day, it all burst out of her when she saw me, I waved at Sally and Fred, they were in the same classroom which we were both pleased about.

We sang all the way home through the park,  then I tucked her in and sat back and waited, I didn't have long to wait.

I could hear the Brass band playing, I could smell the hotdogs and onions mixed in with the smell of candy floss, and all around was the sound of a fair ground, it cheered me up immediately,  Connie was looking unsure but curiosity  bubbled under the surface, she looked to me for reassurance and was soon as excited as I was.

Oh, I was looking forward to this, I grabbed Connie's hand

"Welcome to your first county fair, what would you like to do first?"

She looked around bewildered with everything that was happening, then back at me with wide eyes.

" I know...... the merry go round"

We ran over to the ride, Connie took ages choosing her horse finally settling for a unicorn called  Rainbow, I went for the big black one called Dobbin next to hers.  We chambered aboard. The music started up and gradually the ride picked up the pace soon we were going up and down round and round, it was exhilarating. Connie loved it.

"Gen" she cried, "gen, horsey " so we did it again,

"Come on Connie, more to see and do" and I dragged her away from the merry go round.

"Next stop the helter skelter" we queued in line, Millie Muffet's brother Morris was in the line, but I didn't see Millie herself, soon it was our go, we were given a hessian sack, up and up round and round we climbed, there was a fantastic view at the top, we settled into our sack then.....

'' Wheeeeeeeeee" we swirled down to the bottom  of the slide, Connie clung to me in delight. We went up again, while I was at the top I saw  the bumper cars.

"Connie look, bumper cars, I haven't seen them in a long time.

It was great fun, we chose a pink car number 4, we crashed into Millie and Morris, narrowly avoided two big black spiders in the car behind them, Bert the electrician was there too with 2 small children and Maggie the shoe lady was in another car with another 2, CRASH we went and sparks flew, Connie thought it terrific and laughed and laughed.

I spotted...... (deep sigh) Georgie and another lad in one of the cars and aimed our car to crash but was deflected at the last minute by a sullen faced girl with a determined look, she was going to defend Georgie from all comers, she watched him adoringly,

George hadn't noticed her, he whispered to his companion who replied and George laughed, it was deep and rich and throaty,  and my insides turned all mushy. My georgie sensor started working and I could hear them talking
