Chapter One

It's been three days living with my dad. I guess I'm still not used to seeing him and Diane, his wife. My mom and dad got divorce when I was 4 years old and got remarried to Diane 2 years later.

My dad never had to deal with my condition before so when I found out I'd be living with him while my mom had to travel with her work for a few months, I didn't know what was going to happen.

My first day here my dad, Diane and their daughter Kelly welcomed me with open arms. They showed me around their small bungalow and Diane had brunch ready by the time the tour was done. Kelly talked about her school play she's starring in, what she did for her 10th birthday a few months back and how excited she is to finally have a big sister. For a 10 year old she was really smart and very loud but she was also very nice to me. Dad and Diane told me what they did for a living; Dad worked as a professor at one of the universities in town and Diane was an editor for the local news paper.

After we ate, Kelly went to a friends house and dad, Diane and I talked about my somnambulism. My dad was shocked to say was an understatement. Diane on the other hand apparently did her research and put locks on my doors.

That night I took my medication and said I was going to bed. I waited for morning to rise as I just laid on my still fully made bed, starring at the glow-in-the-dark stars taped to my ceiling, thanks to Kelly. Once it was around 4 am I decided a walk would help me greatly.

That's how I met Vince Stinson. The one boy who I can't seem to get off my mind. I hadn't seen him since but I had a feeling I would see him soon after he told me he went to Rosemarie High, the local high school.

It was now Tuesday and my first day of school. Dad and Diane had decided to let me settle before going to school but three days is enough for me, and I was running out of things to do. Unpacking and touring the town doesn't take a lot of time.

I broke away from my thoughts and looked down at what I was wearing; a plain red hoodie, zipped up half way, over a grey tank top and black skinny jeans. My hair was down in its natural brown waves, ending just below my shoulders. Eyeliner, mascara and concealer to cover the purple bags under my eyes from my lack of sleep, was the only make up I wore.

I sighed figuring this was good enough for my first day of school. I grabbed my black backpack and went into the kitchen down the hall. Diane and Kelly were sitting at the table, Diane drinking a cup of coffee and Kelly eating lucky charms. I got a bowl and spoon out, pouring myself some lucky charms hoping for some luck. I sat down beside Kelly and ate silently while listening to their conversation.

"Ebony sweetie, Joe's left already for work so I'll be driving you to school. But I'll have to take Kelly first." Diane said

"Okay." I replied simply before finishing my cereal.

Diane was beautiful even at the age of 45. She had long golden brown wild curly hair and green eyes. She had a heart shaped face, thin lips, a pointy nose and a fair skin complexion. Kelly had been lucky enough to look a lot like Diane with the same hair but slightly wavy from our dad and the same eyes as Diane. Kelly also had dads tanned skin complexion.

My dad, Joe, was 47 years old. His hair was dark brown and wavy ending just above his shoulders and a 5 o'clock shadow and blue eyes. Him and I look much a like from our dark brown wavy hair to our deep blue eyes. Though my skin tone is much paler from my mom and I have more of a round face than and heart shaped face. I get my height from him too, my mom being 5'4", me being 5'7" and my dad being 6'3".

"Ebony, get your shoe's on please. We need to get going if you don't want to be late on your first day!" Diane said, instantly snapping me out of my daydream.

I put my bowl in the sink and pulled my black converse on before leaving out the front door and into Diane's white Land Rover.

20 minutes later and Kelly is dropped off at her elementary school and I am just arriving at Rosemarie High.

"Are you excited?" Diane asked, I think she was more excited than me but then again I was terrified.

"Yup, ecstatic." I replied flatly before exiting the car with a final wave then heading to the huge brownish-red brick building.

It looked to be three floors, it had lots of windows and a grassy area in front of the school. Teens were everywhere in their groups and I could already see all the stereotypes. The 'Popular's', the 'Drama Geeks', the 'Nerds', the 'Loners' who hang out with other loners, the 'Class Clowns' and last but not least, the 'Bad Boy's'.

I breathed deeply through my nose and opened the front door to the school, map and schedule in my hands- which the school emailed me last night- and began looking for my first class English in room 218. I checked the time and saw I had 5 minutes til the morning bell rings and start making my way towards the classroom.

Unfortunately I am terrible with maps and found myself completely lost after 10 minutes hopelessly looking for room 218. I looked back down at my map of the school and continued walking, not taking my eyes off the paper until I collided with someone.

"Sorry about that." I said picking up my bag that had dropped before looking back up at the face I seem to always be thinking about.

"I'm fine. Your Ebony, right?" Vince asked

"You remembered..." I said a little shocked he actually remembered my name. I mean I know I didn't forget his name but I'm nothing special to actually be remembered by.

"Yeah, why wouldn't I?" He asked with a raised eyebrow

"Um, well it's just t-that, uh, I-I, um-" I stuttered before Vince cut me off,

"Shouldn't you be in class?"

"I'm a little lost," I paused looking around to see the halls emptied except for Vince and I before turning back facing Vince, "Could you show me where room 218 is?"

"Yeah come on, I have the same class right now." He said, walking past me in the direction I was just coming from.

I sighed as we walked down the hall in comfortable silence until we came to a stop in front of a oak wood door with the numbers 218 on the top of the door. Vince put his hand on the golden knob, looking over his shoulder at me, a smirk painted on his face.

"Ready?" He asked

"Nope." I said with a shrug of my shoulder

He laughed then opened the door. I guess I there's no turning back now.
