When a person dies, some people expect them to become a memory. Some people expect them to go to heaven or hell, based on what sort of life they lead in the mortal world. Others think that they hover around the mortal realm, looking for souls to haunt, and bodies to claim their own. But none of these are completely correct. It may be hard to understand, but when a person dies, their soul remains with the most immediate member of their family that is alive. In most cases, this is a parent or child. They remain attached to this person for the whole of their existence, until this member of family, too passes on. After this happens the soul of the first person becomes free to move on to the everlasting peace people wish upon them at funerals and such. Then it's the second persons turn to become attached to someone. And how would someone like me, a 16 year old school girl know about these things, you might ask? Well, just like in everything we experience throughout life, there are glitches, and bumps that never quite get smoothed over. In this case, it's an extremely rare, recessive gene. So rare in fact that I have never, ever met anyone with the same ability as me. I can see the souls of the dead, shrouded around living people. Describing it is difficult, but sometimes it's like an aura circling the person, other times it's a ghostly hand attached to the persons wrist, or a blur of light reflecting off of a piece of jewellery they've inherited. It's strange seeing people so unaware of the souls that drift around them, when I see them so clearly everyday.
