I HEAR a lot of myths from the human versions of werewolf stories that there is this Moon Goddess we worship. It's also said that she assigns all of us a mate when we're born. I hear that we waste years of our lives trying to find these assigned mates. Well, that's not true...for the most part.

There is no Moon Goddess that we worship; just whatever God that is crazy enough to listen to a bunch of giant, shape-shifting wolves. There are true soulmates, but they are extremely rare- the last pair having been a hundred years ago. Werewolves choose their mates, much like how humans choose who they love. The only problem is, is if an Alpha chooses you, you have no choice. And if an Alpha chooses a Charge, it causes problems.

Now, you're probably wondering what the hell a Charge is. A Charge is a young wolf that has shown potential to be a high-ranking pack warrior in both physical and strategic skill. Every future and current Alpha, Luna, Beta, and Third in Command are assigned one. Their job is to protect them, even at the cost of their lives. Not only does this result in some of the best pack warriors, but it also shows the pack that the assigned Protector is a great candidate to lead the pack.

However, there's a catch. If the Charge of a future leader is killed, the Protector fails and is no longer a candidate for the position they were trained for. Instead, they are stripped of their title, exiled, and are left in the unclaimed territories to become a rogue. Very rarely are they ever accepted into another pack.

Very few wolves have been exiled from the White Wolf Pack, so our members have a lot of faith in our current and future set of leaders. Some of the pack members are a little wary about my future position as Beta because of my "attitude." They say that I'm too cold-hearted and too emotionless, to help run a whole pack of werewolves. But, that is where they're wrong.

Emotions get in the way of a clear mind. They cause problems. They can be used against you. And that can result in my possible death.
