Left for Dead Chapter 1

“Come on, Claire; let’s just go get something to eat.”

My name is Claire Gillespie, and I am a junior at the University of North Dakota. That was just my roommate, Victoria Lee. I was staring at the huge wall of snow blocking our only exits from our dorm.

“Yeah, whatever, Vic. I was getting bored anyway. It sucks sitting here looking at nothing anyway.”

We were walking to the kitchen when we heard a crash on the floor above us. Victoria picked up a large broom and hit the ceiling with the dull end, causing some dust and cobwebs to slowly drift down.

“KEEP THE FUCK DOWN!” Victoria hollered to the roof.

I gasped as she said that, as I am against cursing. Victoria shot me a look like she was livid about only five of us here. Victoria was as you could say… a people person. And with three of her best friends, and one creep… you could tell she wasn’t excited.

“They just need to keep quiet, or I’ll go up there and show them who’s freaking BOSS! I swear….” she trailed off. I walked over to the cabinet with the quick mac-and-cheese and grabbed two bowls. I heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. The only person who could light up my day but also ruin it at the same time sauntered in, followed by my boyfriend.

Gabe Dennis was the school’s coolest douchebag, if that made any sense. He was the coolest person I knew, but also one of the meanest. One time he broke up with the “model” of the school for five dollars, when they had dated for two and a half years.

On the other hand, my boyfriend, Alexander Jennings, or as we call him Alex, was tall and handsome. He had an extremely sculpted jawline, with slight stubble. He had wavy blonde hair, and electrifying green eyes.

“Was it you two bitches who were making all that noise?” Victoria asked.

“We just had an exciting game of Cruisin’ Exotica on the Nintendo 64. You need to calm down, airhead.”

Victoria was stunned at what Gabe said to her. I knew she had the BIGGEST crush on him ever, but she never had her heart on her sleeve.

“Fuck off!” she shouted.

“Fine… I just wanted some dinner. Is that a problem?” he asked.

She just paced into the main room, and all of us followed. We all plopped down on a large couch, with me next to her. I put my arm around her and rubbed her shoulder, consoling her. She was more upset this time than the last.

Last summer, Gabe led her on, and to keep the story quick, he used her just to have sex. He never liked her, thought she was annoying, and on the other side, she fell in love with him, and she was let down when she overheard him saying he only wanted her for the sex. She never got him off her mind, which started making her grades slip up. I helped her study, along with Alex, and she finished her freshman year with low B’s.

We let her be, and walked in the kitchen where the man of the hour was waiting.

“What’d I say?” he asked quizzically.

“What do you mean, ‘what?’ you dick! You hurt her feelings. You know how she’s felt these past few years about you and you just put her down. Dude, you’re stupid.” Alex stated with a disappointed look.

What can I say? I agreed with Alex. Gabe hurt her. Again. And again. And again.

Softer footsteps came down through the stairwell. Olivia Stevens walked in, and we all quieted down. She was one of our closest friends and one of the cheerleaders here at the Uni. We silently agreed to not tell her what had just occurred.
