he remembered the way they met.
it wasn't anything too interesting to be talked about (or at least some parts weren't), but it was interesting enough for him to always remember.
because it had been the first time he saw her cry. the first time he had seen her look so heartbroken and vulnerable.
jungwoo had been making his way to the lunchroom, only realizing minutes before that he was sacrificing his health for school lunch. which his friend had thought was not a good idea.
a soft, yet pained cry had came from the girls bathroom, echoing off the empty and dark walls surrounding the stall the girl had been sitting in.
jungwoo stopped and turned towards lucas, noticing he had not seemed to pay mind to the noise.
"go on and i'll meet you there, i just need to use the bathroom real quick," jungwoo said, walking closer to the bathrooms.
lucas laughed and shook his head as if in disappointment. "you're supposed to use it after you eat, dumbass."
something jungwoo often noticed was that lucas was annoying. and loud. and had no filter whatsoever. but he was caring and somewhere under all of his obnoxiousness, he was actually a loving guy. to some people.
waiting intil lucas walked away and out of sight, jungwoo slipped into the girls bathroom, not even checking if any actual girls were in there.
jungwoo silently cried of happiness when there was nothing but the quiet sounds of whimpers coming from the last stall.
"hello?" jungwoo's voice was louder than he anticipated, and it made him slightly cringe. "please ignore the fact that im a boy in the girl's bathroom, because i can assure you that i am no creep, but a concerned citizen."
the crying had stopped, but the heavy breathing seemed even heavier in each second of silence that passed.
the door to the stall hadn't opened so jungwoo asked, "do you want me to get someone for you? like the nurse? i have a pad in my backpack i-if you need on-one. they're not mine of course. 'cause im a g-guy and that would be we-weird. okay, i'll be back."
the girl had started crying again and carefully let out a small, "no. im fine."
the door carefully creaked open, the girl walking out hesitantly, but in no shame or embarrassment.
jungwoo's eyes had widened to the point where they actually started to hurt.
it was her; the girl rumored to have no emotions except emptiness, the girl that seemed to have hated everything and everyone in her life.
what a fucking classic thing to say about a depressed kid in high school, jungwoo thought, considering that none of that could be true.
"are you okay?" he asked, not wanting to make it obvious that he was indeed in the girls bathroom. with a girl.
he mentally rolled his eyes at himself. well how obvious can that get?
the girl walked to the sink, not yet looking at him. "im fine, no worries. you can go now before some girl walks in and starts hitting you with her pad."
jungwoo's cheeks turned red and he began to walk out of the bathroom, looking back to find her wiping her eyes.
he knew exactly what his brother would say to him. "you're being extremely useless right now. care, or at least act like you do, even when you don't need to."
so without thinking about it, jungwoo walked right up to the girl and hugged her. she was smaller than he had anticipated, so his arms seemed more like a blanket around the girl.
she stood still, not giving any intention of putting her arms around him in return. suddenly, jungwoo felt awkward and embarrassed about the whole situation.
then there was an obnoxious scream.
