THREE | TANGLED UP IN BLUE
OCTAVIA WAS SITTING cross-legged on the floor in Elijah's bedroom as she read through one of Elijah's journals. The words on every page were written in cursive and were neat.
August 1359. I have noticed a difference in my siblings. Our bond strains beneath the pressure of our life as vampires. Each day removes them further from the humanity we once possessed. My sweet sister, Rebekah, has grown quite indifferent to brutality. However, the true problem remains my brother, Niklaus. He continues to hide his loneliness with cruelty. Still, I cling to the hope that I, as their eldest brother, can lead them down the correct path, a path charged with the power of a family united. For if I fail, our family's legacy will end in darkness.
Octavia stopped reading and walked downstairs with the journal in her hands to find Rebekah and Klaus talking in the foyer, she didn't approach just listened. Hayley was in her room.
Rebekah pouted, "I cannot believe you disposed of those vampires without me. You know how I love to set things on fire!" If she wasn't an immortal original vampire she would have thought that she needed some professional help.
Klaus smirked, "Was I supposed to leave them in the front yard to rot? Besides, they were my responsibility. They attacked the helpless pregnant girl who's carrying my child, and quite possibly hurt Octavia as well!" Klaus wasn't completely intolerable anymore, ever since the talk they had he told her that she could leave the house more often, only if he companied her or Rebekah did. Hayley walked down the stairs to get some water and looked at the group in the foyer.
The blonde original rolled her eyes. "Oh, I am so moved by your new-found sense of fatherly duties towards the werewolf carrying your hybrid bun in her oven and the little witch." Octavia and Hayley joined them in the foyer.
"The werewolf and the witch would like to know what the plan is." Hayley said and Klaus sighed, he gave them a look. His eyes glanced down to the young witches hands, she held Elijah's journal.
"Well, that depends what plan you mean, love-- my plan for global domination, or Rebekah's plan to find love in a cruel, cruel world?" Rebekah took a pencil from the desk beside her and threw it in Klaus' direction. He caught it easily before it can embed itself in his face
The witch frowned, she wasn't in the mood for his games. "The plan to rescue Elijah. You know, the good brother? The one that Marcel has right now, and as I'm sure you know you and your family aren't his favorite people, he's practically your mortal enemy." Klaus was about to say something but Octavia cut him off. "You two said that you would get him back. So is there a plan, or not?"
"Okay. Well, firstly, Marcel is not my mortal enemy-- he's my friend." Klaus corrected her, she sincerely doubted that Marcel liked the hybrid. "Albeit one who is unaware that I'm trying to sabotage his hold over the supernatural community of the French Quarter, but a friend nonetheless. And secondly, I daggered Elijah in order to gain Marcel's trust. If I had known he would place my brother in the hands of a particularly nasty teenage witch, I certainly would have weighed my options a bit differently." Davina has Marcel, Octavia didn't feel any safer because of that. She would have to pay Davina a visit. "And thirdly--" He turned to Rebekah and gestured for her to speak. "--Sister, please."
