Chapter III

As the doorbell rang, I ran over to the mirror that was on the opposite wall facing the dining room and I double checked my hair, my makeup, and my apparel. I definitely do not want to make a bad impression since my mom loves this family. I turned around to see Sarah and her two little children come running in. Her kids were so happy to be here and automatically began to scream, which brought a frantic and excited Mikey speeding down the staircase to meet with his new friends. I rolled my eyes with a slight smile appearing on my face. “Hi Sarah, how are you?” I said, my eyes shifting back and forth nervously. Her smile made my cheeks warm up a little and then she answered, “I’m great sweet heart, how are you?” I shook my head back and forth, issuing that I wasn’t great but I wasn’t bad which threw her and I into a small fit of laughter.

Her and my mother got into a really heated conversation about food, yes food. But I wasn’t complaining, except for the fact that I was starving and their food talk was making me even hungrier. “My son probably won’t be here until another half an hour, so we can probably start eating and he will join us later.” She smiled, the skin around her eye wrinkles a little bit. I nodded, helping mom get the food on the table. All the children came running in and took their places at the table. I sat down in my seat and started thinking about her son. He’s probably extremely stunning and has amazing manners just like his mother. If he looks like his mother too, I think he might be borderline perfect. She has pretty shoulder length brown hair and bright green eyes that have tiny flecks of blue in their warmth. Her skin is slightly tan and she has beautiful dimples when she smiles. The way she talks to people is just so sweet too. She’s honestly one of the nicest people I have ever met. I wonder where her husband is and why she never talks about him. Maybe it’s a really soft topic for her, so I won’t bother to bring it up. I sat for a few more moments while eating and admiring her, when all of a sudden, the front door swung open and the suspense built as someone walked in.

Once the person was fully revealed from the closure of the door, I realized who it was. My eyes squinted with anger until I realized my mother and his mother were both smiling. Now, I’m going to pretend that I like to be in this kid’s company for the whole night without chewing his head off. “Hello, Mrs. Taylor, Mom, and Summer.” He smiled, knowingly that our mothers are going to question how we met each other. And just as I expected, “How do you guys know each?” our mothers asked simultaneously, smiling toothy grins. Before I could answer saying that I didn’t know him, he cut me off, “We met the other day. She was talking to some sketchy guy while I was walking by. I don’t want to blow her cover or anything, but,” his voice then went from a slight roar to a little whisper, “I think she’s been doing drugs.” His eyes then averted to mine, “I told her that she shouldn’t do drugs, because their bad. But she didn’t listen, I only caught her name because the drug dealer told her to come again and then said her name. I only want to keep you safe, Summer.” He said, mocking sincerity. I gritted my teeth, glaring at him. He would definitely be dead if looks could kill. “That is such an absurd story! You cannot believe that Sarah.” I stared at his mother, trying to convince her of the truth. I didn’t even dare look at my mother because I could feel her eyes sending daggers at the back of my head. I walked over to Tyler and put a finger on his chest, shoving him backwards slightly. “Stop lying, you knuckle-head. My mom is going to believe you.” I said loudly enough for both our mothers to hear. I turned around and faced my mom. Just as I expected, her fists were clenched and her face was beet red. “Mom, you can check everywhere in my room. I swear he’s lying. We met in school!” I cried, but she was a little suspicious of me. “Give me your phone, and your car keys. You are punished until further notice.” She said, holding her hand out waiting to retrieve my items. I grumbled as I walked towards the island in the middle of our kitchen and grabbed my keys and handed both my phone and keys to her. She put them down on the table beside her and waited for me to sit.
